This is good fresh fish and chips. They have a great menu and prompt service. There is a relaxing seaside park at the river mouth a very short walk away to enjoy the meal you have selected.
We were very excited to eat here after seeing a bunch of locals enjoying themselves… turns out they were wisely eating cheese toasties, not fish and chips. Lesson learned.nnOver $70 later we walked away with 2 scoops of chips, one serving of wedges, and 3 pieces of fish — which felt less like a takeaway order and more like a financial decision I should’ve discussed with an accountant first.nnThe fish itself was pretty underwhelming and tasted suspiciously like it may have known a freezer in a previous life. Chips and wedges were ok.nnMoral of the story: if you come here, follow the locals. Get the cheese toasty?
Not the friendliest to tourist I supposed and the fish portion was kinda small not sure if it’s cause of the type of fish we got. It was quite oily as well and the batter wasn’t as nice as some others we tried.
Good old fashioned fish and chips to eat at the beach. Delicious.
The best fish and chips we’ve had in New Zealand. Good portions of fish, good batter and the blue cod tasted fresh and meaty. Chips were good but…still not as good as a UK chippie. This seems to be a NZ chippie theme, they’re like McCain oven chips. We took a short walk up the road and ate on the stationary boat, overlooking the sea. Perfect.
