Story

Duck Away Cottage is set in sweeping lawns on a 10-acre lifestyle block, located on a hilltop midway between Tutukaka and Matapouri Bay. The property offers farm and coastline views into Matapouri and north to the Bay of Islands.

Private and peaceful, Duck Away Cottage is an ideal size for a couple and is a great alternative for couples travelling during school holiday periods when families have cornered the other accommodation options!

There are at least six beaches nearby, on a coastline that was ranked in the top three in the world by National Geographic Traveler magazine in 2010.

The attractions of the Tutukaka Coast include surfing, fishing and scuba diving including two wreck dives and the legendary Poor Knights (rated one of the world's top 10 dive spots by Jacques Cousteau, and a fantastic experience even if you aren't a diver - also voted one of New Zealand's top 10 "must-do" attractions by Kiwis in 2007).

Restaurants, cafes and bar nearby.

From the get-go Colleen was extremely accommodating and kind, both via email and in person. We loved the site - you can hear kiwi and ruru calling from the bushes around the places - too great! The cabin was tidy and comfortable, the shared facilities looked comfy and everything was kept beautifully. Nice and quiet, a great place to rest and recover after diving! Will come back some time, thanks so much, Team! Walkability: Close to the shop and marina, an easy as walk!
Excellent facilities, clean spacious well equipped studio units and amenity block. Tranquil setting. The staff are friend, professional and went out of their way to provide advice, guidance and even rescued us when our booked transport to airport fell through. Highly recommend.Rooms: 5/5
You won’t find another campsite for such good value! We stayed here when heading up north and returned again a few days later on the way back down. All the facilities you could need are available, a big kitchen and outdoor bbq, clean toilets and nice hot showers, and laundry. It’s a lovely family friendly, quiet campsite where you feel safe and can get a good nights sleep. Surrounded by lovely hills and some cute ducks will come to say hello. The host is the most lovely caring lady who was so kind to us when our plans were up in the air due to some severe weather conditions.
Just had 4 nights at this camp. Excellent base for visiting surrounding beaches. Beautiful open camp, very good facilities, helpful and friendly staff. Kiwi in surrounding bush so important to maintain dog-free policy. Highly recommended.
Not the happy camper family style campground we were hoping for. As many of the reviews have said the management seem quite grumpy. Tell you to keep it down after 10pm even when you are being very respectful and being very quiet. The bathrooms are quite gross. They put out a hand towel for everyone to share and wipe your hands on. At one point there looked to be blood on it. Yuck! The showers would cause a massive puddle all day every day right where you want to wash your hands so you have to stand in the dirty puddle. There's no avoiding it. A sign appeared near the end of our stay that said please make sure the shower curtain stays inside the shower. Shower curtains are also gross if you ask me at a camp ground. Huge signs everywhere telling you that you must be out by 10am. Just wasn't a friendly happy vibe around the place. Only thing I did like was the fact that it's not a huge place, so not a massive walk to the toilets and kitchen. Wish I'd read the reviews before booking. Maybe they need to read their reviews and try to improve the place. It has such potential.
We have experienced a wonderfully warm welcome. The campground is beautifully nestled in nature and very quiet. The facilities are clean, spacious and painted with beautiful colors. We like it here very much.
We have stayed at this Holiday Park over the last several years and find it to our liking hence we keep coming back, The self contained unit we usually stay in is always clean and tidy. Facilities and grounds are kept immaculate. Managers are very helpful and polite I highly recommend staying there.
The only reason I rate this place 1 start out of 5 is because I can't give it zero. This is the single worst camp ground I have ever stayed at. I wish I had read the reviews. To be honest, I question how anyone would ever give this place a glowing or even mediocre review. The management are the rudest, most incompetent camp ground staff I have ever dealt with, leaving my blood boiling more than once. We actually left 3 days early, and not because of the storm... we've managed worse storms in tents. And THE BATHROOMS! Omg. Nothing short of disgusting. They thankfully seem to change the single hand towel they put out for everyone to use, daily I think. Could be every 2 days. And in case you didn't know checkout was at 10am, the million signs around the place will let you know. I've posted pics of 3 of the signs between the bathroom and my tent - my tent was 20m from the bathroom. The tent sites are also smaller than advertised. And if you're not tucked up in bed by 10, the fun police will get you, even if you're whispering. Not sure how they deal with loud snoring. If you want to sleep in, you can forget about that. Management zoom around faster than the speed limit they police, real early, waking everyone and the kids up. And if you do manage to sleep through that, the screaming and yelling at people who are running one or two minutes over the 10am checkout deadline, will do it. Do not go here. You will hate it. Also, seems to be for sale. Go here if you want to buy it and make it amazing
The park needs to be fully renovated. The sites are VERY small, and the bathrooms were ALWAYS disgusting. My son was on the tramp at 7pm summer time and was told from security to get off as the playground is not to be played on after 7pm. We were also told on NYE 1am, from security to go to sleep, not to be quiet, but to go to sleep. The shower prices are terrible, considering I go to mercury bay holiday park and dont have to pay to use the shower. I used the washing machine and my clothes came out dirtier than they were before I used it. I do not recommend this place at all. IN RESPONSE TO THE REPLY I GOT FOR MY REVIEW: What a complete lie your comment is. The ladies bathroom was flooded every late afternoon/evening. My son WAS told to get off the tramp at 7pm from security and I did not come with a large group nor did we come with friends. It was myself and husband up at 1am talking quietly outside our tent when we were told to go to bed. Your washing machine must be faulty because it is absolutely disgusting. This review is 100% true, I only write reviews with my honest opinion as I usually read the reviews before purchasing anything. I wish I read the reviews before staying here, if I did, I wouldnt think twice about this place. No wonder why its for sale!
Management was rude when I enquired about changing my dates in response to the strong rain and wind watch/cyclone. They said ‘unfortunately we don’t predict the weather so you will lose your deposit’ which was my full 3 nights stay. I knew a refund was not possible due to terms and conditions, but I hoped for some flexibility. Heard other campgrounds were more understanding. I would think twice before camping there again - plenty of freedom camping in the Tutukaka coast.. campgrounds themselves were ok though. Oh and it’s 50 cents for a 7 min hot shower.
