On a beautiful spring day in 2003 while out kayaking on the Opawa river we asked ourselves “why don’t we start a business to share this unique environment with others?” Both of us have been brought up on local farms, are passionate about our fauna and flora and love walking, kayaking and taking photos.
We approached a lodge owner and he suggested ecotourism was what many of his clients were looking for.
Driftwood Eco-Tours was launched later that year and our first client’s words were “What a joy that day was for me....”
The tours are personalized, tailored to the client’s interests and sustainable. We have private access to many unique properties.
In 2007 we added kayaking tours which gave clients the chance to connect even closer with wildlife and provided awesome photographic opportunities for birdlife and sunsets.
Cooking is another love of ours so we provide home cooking and muffins for all tours. Now we have introduced 4wd High country farm tours, where you can meet local farming families.
We have strong feelings about our environment; have a covenanted wetland in which we plant an endemic tree for every tour taken to help reduce our carbon footprint.
We have discovered some Fernbirds in the wetland which have not been recorded in our area for 150 years. We have also seen Australasian Bittern in our wetland.
We also have an ethos to contribute to the communities in which we explore.
At Driftwood we personalize the tours to the client’s interests and time frame so every tour is different and unique. Bespoke and multiday tours are also available.

Easy lagoon kayaking - you don't have to have prior experience. Gentle hiking/walking on wilderness trails, you will have the birds andl wildlife identified for you.
You set the pace! We love good food and there is plenty of time to stop and take a break and enjoy home cooking prepared to your dietary preferences.
