Dove Hawkes Bay is committed to serving the community, whanau and individuals whose lives are impacted by family violence. We seek to empower our whanau and the community by providing quality education and support services.
DOVE Hawkes Bay provides intervention and education services in the area of Stopping Violence, with the focus on maximising the safety of women and children. The organisation has three main areas of service, Men’s Women’s and Youth.
To protect the victims of violence through education and empowerment.
To hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions and assist all people to develop alternative strategies to violence.
DOVE Hawkes Bay was started in 1993. Currently it is based in Napier, but provides services to the districts of Napier, Hastings and Central Hawke’s Bay.
It is a member of the National Network of Stopping Violence / Te Kupenga Whakaoti Mahi Patunga and is an approved provider by Ministry of Justice, Department of Corrections and Child Youth and Family.
These organisations are the main funders of DOVE Hawkes Bay along with the Family and Community Services department of Ministry of Social Development.
Referrals come from a range of community and government organisations, with the Department of Corrections being the principle referrer of men attending the stopping violence programme.
DOVE offers Men's Stopping Violence Programmes, Women's Support and Education Programmes, Women’s Anger Without Violence Programmes, Youth Family Violence Prevention Programmes, Community Education and Training, one-to-one support for men, women and young people, monitoring of courts and police, social work support for individuals and families/whanau and a co-ordinated interagency response to family violence.
DOVE Hawkes Bay acts in the role of Lead Agency for the collaborative initiative, LIVE HB. A recent development has been the establishment of a Pacific Island Family Violence Service to work with the Pacifica communities in Hawke’s Bay.
