Dive Whakatāne

Story

Underwater exploration, education and conservation

"Diveworks Charters is in it's 23rd year of operation, family owned and operated. A great boat for divers and snorkelers. During summer Diveworks provides the opportunity to swim, view and enjoy dolphins that have come into the Bay of Plenty to feed and breed. Sightings of baby dolphins are incredible and the friendly Kekeno seals love to swim and play in a swimming bay at Whale Island. "Over 30,000 people have been on Diveworks - our tour parties are small and with every trip you will feel like one of the family""

So cool experience! We were a bit sceptical first as there are not so many information on their website and the emails were answered brusquely. However, the experience was great! They seem to do the tour twice a month. We were on the boat for about five hours and first saw and swam with dolphins and then headed to the island to swim with seals and saw the wildlife! Usually, I don't like these touristy watching tours as they don't care about the animals, diveworks, however, was really paying attention that the animals are respected and not disturbed.
What an amazing experience. Most beautiful place to see. Crew were amazing and have such a connection to the island that it makes the tour personal. Seeing the native wildlife thriving in the natural habitat is an unforgettable thrill. Thank you for the memories our family made today. Your conservation work is everything to our future. Keep up the wonderful work you do.
5 Stars for the most fantastic day. Short trip out the Elephant rock amazing, around the bay to view the seal colony, onto the beach to look at the sulfur formations, then back onto the boat and around to walk to the Doc hut for morning tea, then through the forest to see Kiwi footprints, geckos, tuatara, up to the summit to look out to White Island .Then back to swim with the seals. Simply cannot praise the crew enough.
