Coming from Taiwan where bao buns originated, I have to say these aren't made the traditional way—but they are absolutely delicious! It’s easily one of the most impressive meals I’ve had in NZ so far. A creative and refreshing twist on a classic. Highly recommend!
My wife and I ate here twice during our stay in Te Anau. The food was DELICIOUS! Everything was so fresh. We ate outside the first day in the beautiful sun. The second visit was during dinner and there was a wait, so we got our food to go and the quality was just as good as if we had eaten at the restaurant. I had the spicy tuna sushi bowl and the pork belly bao. My wife had the tofu sushi bowl and chicken sushi bowl. All of the dishes were excellent!
It was hard for me to find good tasty food in NZ, so this place was an amazing suprize!nnI took the pork sushi bowl and it was stunning, delicious and comforting. The pork was done to perfection and rice was japanese level and all the rest accompanied them with tasty compliments.nnAd the service there is awesome, real kiwi warm and kind people!nnCan't recommend it enough.
The place and vibe are genuinely nice, cozy setup, good atmosphere, and a location that makes you expect a solid meal. Unfortunately, the food completely ruined the experience.nnWe ordered the cha shu bowl and the karaage bowl, and both were extremely disappointing. The meats were shockingly dry. The chicken karaage was the worst offender hard, dry, and genuinely unpleasant to eat. It felt overcooked to the point where finishing the bowl became a chore rather than a meal to enjoy. The cha shu wasn’t much better dry, lacking flavor, and nowhere near what you’d expect from a dish that’s supposed to be rich and tender.nnFor a place that seems to get a lot of praise, this was honestly baffling. If food quality matters to you, especially the protein, this place seriously misses the mark.nnGreat vibe, poor execution in the kitchen. I won’t be back for the food.
Absolutely delicious food! I came on a weekday during lunchtime. I ordered the tuna poke bowl - this was surprisingly the nicest poker bowl I've ever had. The flavours just paired so well. The tuna was fresh and didn't taste metallic or fishy. I really liked how the veggies all blended perfectly. The pork adobo was also delicious, very well seasoned and tender. The place is clearly run by a family or people who love what they do and it shows. An absolute must visit
