AN EVENING WITH DIMITRIS BASIS
The Greek Orthodox Community of Wellington Inc presents from Greece, the one and only, Dimitris Basis, live in concert. Get ready for an unforgettable night with one of Greece’s most acclaimed artists featuring an array of top hits from his bright career, spanning over 20 years.
Dimitris Basis, live in concert for one and only performance at Mac’s Brewery, 4 Taranaki Street Wharf, Wellington on Saturday 12th May 2018. This is a Greek concert not to be missed!
Basis has performed with some of Greece’s premium musicians and is a regular vocalist with the “Mikis Theodorakis” Orchestra. With a diploma in Byzantine music, he started chanting the liturgy in the local church before taking his first steps in professional singing at the age of 20. Over the years, he has released many albums that have been a success in Greece and across Europe. You'll know him for his famous 'Psithiroi Kardias', 'H Zwh' and his amazing tributes to other singers such as Mitropanos. He has performed with many other well-known Greek singers and composers; Haris Alexiou, Yiannis Kotsiras, Themis Adamantidis, Pashalis Terzis, Mikis Theodorakis and Dimitri Mitropanos just to name a few.
Dimitris Basis has expressed his deep desire to tour New Zealand and play for the Greeks in the community. He is well aware of how small the community is in New Zealand and his vision is to enable small communities to enjoy cultural music in the same way that large cities who have larger Greek communities do. Basis himself is from a family who migrated to Germany, he was born in Stuttgart and understands the challenges and the difficulties that migrants face in keeping their language, culture and heritage alive in order to pass these down through the generations. This is why he travels regularly in remote cities in Europe, America and now New Zealand.
We aim to create the same atmosphere of the famous 'Stin Ygeia Mas' television show; it will be an intimate gathering and ticket numbers will be limited.
