Tons of good Dutch food and household items. Some items were a little on the pricier side but all of it is authentically Dutch so I would imagine its quite a feat to get it all shipped. Paid the extra little bit to tour the upstairs area. Very interesting to see and love that they provided a booklet with information. Well worth it!
Excellent staff, lots of lovely smiles and conversation that makes you feel welcome and want to go back again. The food is delicious - highly recommend the apple strudel ! The coffee is good too.
The only fully working windmill of it's type in the southern hemisphere. Built mostly from locally sourced timber and very earthquake proof. We were welcomed by friendly staff and volunteers then we were taken on an informative tour up three flights of stairs to see how it all worked including onto the railed balcony. Where you could really appreciate the power of the wind turning the sails. There is a small shop selling goodies from the Netherlands and the flour ground by the windmill
Because we saw a windmill in foxton we spent a homeschool day learning about them.nThen took the girls and paid to go upstairs. Really cool! Plus the Miller was working and he took a lot of extra time to explain each step in the process and show the girls some was hands on. Hugely appreciated and a great learning experience.nBottom floor cute Dutch shopn1st floor Dutch games and seatingn2nd floor flour storage and baggingn3rd floor grinding stones etc for mill
Very well presented to the public.. $3 charge for adults to climb up those steep ladders.. well worth the price when you go up.. Awesome engineering to use Wind power into Mechanical Energy and use it to make wheat powder.. Visited this place few years ago and it wasn't open to public.. But now I highly recommend everyone passing FOXTON to visit De Melon WindMill..
