We dined at the Darfield Hotel on Friday night and had a fantastic experience. I ordered the St Louise Marinated Ribs, which came with fries and salad, and it was absolutely delicious. The dining rooms atmosphere was tranquil and peaceful, making it a great spot for a relaxing meal. Our waitress was awesome, and the rest of the staff were equally impressive ensuring needs were met throughout the evening.
Visited hotel late afternoon today. 10/02/26.nBar staff very friendly and competent, as were locals.nOrdered takeaway, after a couple of drinks at bar. 1 piece fish and some chips.nWas extremely fatty and greasy. Maybe oil or fat is past used by date. After about 1 hour I spent next 2 hours with severe diarrhea and vomiting. Extremely disappointed, as does not reflect my initial reaction. The fish in particular was the problem, it was so greasy and fatty. Have been here a few times, never had an issue. Maybe new owners need to follow food service and storage rules a bit more
I have assumed they were bed bugs. 3-4 bites in a row across the nape of my neck.nThe room lighting was so dim it was impossible to check. The sheets appeared clean and crisp. Apart from the sheets our room was old and felt unclean. The window had a gap as it didn’t fit the sash anymore. Hot water tap over basin had to be held down to work, preventing you from washing your hands in warm water.nThe emergency exit was through an area marked ‘Private’. I did not see a fire alarm in the room only one in the stairwell area. Too far away to hear in your room I would have thought.
After a long day of riding 3 mates and I popped in for the sticky Saturday ribs special and were left a bit disappointed. Pub wasn’t very busy and waited almost 30 mins for ribs and chips which only 3 came out rather cold and they had realised they didn’t cook 4. The staff addressed the problem after another 5 mins and said they would cook the other ones which took at least another 20 mins. A complimentary drink or refund which I asked for would’ve been nice for the situation but staff said whoops sorry. Finally got my ribs and they were average. Eat some dirt darfield hotel.
Went for dinner. Ordered the rib eye, swapped chips for potatoes and salad. Also the full cod and chips. All in all pretty good. The mushroom sauce though was like warm with barely any mushrooms. Potatoes were good. Lots of them. Blue cod was really good. Better perfect and well seasoned. My steak was a bit chewy for a rib eye. Needed a bit more char and salt. Didn't like how the salad is served in a bowl on the plate. I just emptied the bowl on the plate to eat it. Otherwise service is pretty good. Price point in line for a rural pub.
