Beautiful view of the harbor. The climb was bit tiring but the result was exquisite. ...

Great purpose built facility that allows cruise ships back to the area. Run very well by the local port company with friendly and efficient staff. The fact that you are basically in the middle of a secure, working port facility doesn't impede or stop you from being able to move out to larger Christchurch, local attractions or the lively little town of Lyttelton itself.
February 15, 2024 in Christchurch New Zealand nnThis morning, our cruise ship anchored in Lyttelton, NZ around 7:00 am. Following breakfast, we opted for a shuttle to Christchurch, with a fare of $15.00 for the journey to the City Centre. It was explained to us that a significant portion of the city's infrastructure succumbed to the devastating earthquake on February 22, 2011, resulting in widespread destruction.nnIn the aftermath, the resilient city underwent extensive reconstruction, giving rise to a modern urban landscape. Despite the challenges faced, the rebuilt Christchurch now stands as a testament to renewal, boasting a contemporary and clean ambiance. Notably, the city prides itself on being highly wheelchair-accessible, making it convenient for all visitors to explore its renewed charm.nnWe skipped the tram ride because we figured that walking around the city is more enjoyable. Besides, it cost $35.00 per adult.
The berthing location for cruise ships in Lyttleton harbour. Facilities appear to be of fairly recent construction, and consist of a concrete jetty with two connections to a roadway that runs along the nearby breakwater. The connection to the ship itself is by means of two aluminium gangways mounted to 20 foot shipping containers, and removable gangways that are installed / removed with the use of a large road crane.nnBeing a working harbour, access is limited to a short walk to a nearby bus boarding area, where buses to Lyttleton or Christchurch will be waiting. We booked tickets to Christchurch on the ship a few days before arriving in Lyttleton. When returning to the port, don't forget to have your photo identification and cruise pass ready for inspection by port employees. I found the whole process of disembarking and re-boarding the ship to be handled very efficiently.
Fast and efficient going off the ship and coming back. It was helpful to buy tickets to go from the cruise to Christchurch directly. Don't wait, buy the tickets early.
Beautiful little cafe made from containers. Good vibe friendly and amazing coffee and knickerboker glory. Would fully recommend.
