We rented a 2 bed/2 bath with water view. The room and building are extremely clean and well cared for. The room was shown as in the photos online. All communication with the owner was easy and pleasant. Unfortunately, we were there during the cyclone last month so we had to leave early. We are hoping to return to New Zealand and if we do, we will definitely stay at the Crow's Nest.
stayed at Crowsnest Apartments 2 nights recently, and while my experience was fine overall, there were a couple drawbacks, no tissue provided in the unit, which was a bit inconvenient. Also, the walls were surprisingly thin, to the point where I could clearly hear people in the next unit brushing their teeth. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and the apartment itself was clean and comfortable. The location was also convenient with easy access. I would suggest searching for a cheaper place, or staying here only if you want bringing your own tissues and earplugs.
US tourists BEWARE. We had prepaid reservations for two nights while Cyclone Gabrielle hit the Bay of Islands, the worst storm in New Zealand this century. There were red warnings for rain and wind and the roads were closed for several days after the Cyclone passed; we made the right decision to not go into the storm. Even though we didn't use the rooms, they didn't have had anyone else to rent the rooms to and the power was out so the rooms weren't available to be rented, our request for a refund was refused. The reason was their "cancellation policy". We didn't cancel far enough in advance so they felt justified in keeping our money. Their policy on their website states "Cancellation fees are at the discretion of Crow’s Nest Apartments Management". Even though they could refund the cost of the rooms, at their discretion, they chose not to. This "family" business is looking out for their family, not yours.
Don't prepay. We learned a valuable lesson. Our request for a refund was denied because we didn't show. The reason we didn't show was the area was hit by Cyclone Gabrielle and the NZ government issued their strongest warnings for rain and wind for the entire Bay of Islands. It would have been lunacy to drive into their version of a hurricane. What hotel facility in the US would refuse a refund to a guest if they were being hit by a hurricane? This tells you all you need to know about the onsite managers.
Stayed for a couple of nights and booked in for one more as it was such a comfortable stay. We were ready to move in. Friendly reception at check in. It is a self service apartment so clean up on your own, nice vacuum if needed. There is a heat pump and oil heater for the bedroom that kept the apartment nice and warm for our winter stay. There is dish washing soap but only two small packages enough for a load of dish washer detergent but can buy more at office same for laundry. There were a few minor maintenance issues but nothing that distracted from the pleasure of a home away from home feel of the Crow’s Nest. Huge closest to put away your stuff and bags. I was a bit concerned about reviews on the large double bed but it was quite comfy for us bed snobs. I am used to a queen but the large double bed made for some good night sleeps. The shower was hot and powerful with nice towels. We had a nice balcony with a water view. We look forward to our next stay.
This was our 2nd visit to Crowsnest Apartments. The couple who run the place are just delightful and very helpful. The rooms are clean, pretty and just perfect. The 1st time we went, we were 4 ladies, the second time we were 3 couples. Apartments were well maintained and perfect for our needs. I would highly recommend the apartments for a getaway. Rooms: Beautifully maintained and looked after. Good sizes too. Food & drinks: Loads of restaurants in the area to choose from. Within walking distance
It's not cheap but it is excellent value. Would come here again in a heartbeat. You are asked to help out a little with rubbish, recycling, and tidying up after yourself, and in return you get a well appointed, clean, quiet, and enjoyable place to stay. Assigned and secure parking space gives you peace of mind. Walkability: Close to everything in the CBD. Even though the apartment has everything, you end up walking to your meals; either to take back or eat in.
Lovely apartment very spacious and clean. Enjoyed the balcony and the views from the crows nest amazing. Checkin with ease staff very friendly. Close to the beach, warm and eateries all within walking distance highly recommendRooms: 5/5
Spacious, clean, comfortable bed, kitchen mostly really well equipped. It didn't matter that the coffee plunger had been melted as there was only instant coffee provided. A little surprised that not once in the 3-night stay did housekeeping visit to ask about towels/toilet paper/etc.Rooms: 5/5
