5-Speed Gearbox Conversion Kits - www.conversioncomp.com

Story

We design and manufacture special bell housings and conversion kits, enabling Toyota 5-speed gearboxes (RWD) to be installed in a wide range of classic cars.
This is all done on site at our Tamahere, Waikato workshop facility.
About Colin Dray
Colin started automobile ownership with a 1928 Austin 7 Tourer, whilst in the last year of high school. At age 14 his dad purchased a Myford Lathe, and by reading books, he learnt to make many things on that little lathe. With the Austin 7 the flywheel drive key kept shearing off. So after about 3 replacement keys, he decided to make a special wider one, that would 'fit' the worn slot. That was his first fairly serious attempt at making a special part, at age 16. Colin and his brother got into 'Vintage Cars' (pre '31) and he purchased a 1925 Oakland Tourer and proceeded with a full 5 month restoration. That included a few modifications here and there, and 80,000 miles of rallying and personal daily use.
A trip to UK in 1961 led to the purchase of a 1936 3.5L Bentley, touring England and Europe following veteran car rallies. Colin understands owner’s passion for their cars, and wanting to have them right for the road.
Colin is trained in design draughting, tool making, product design and engineering, this has led Colin to have the skills to commence and operate his gearbox conversion business.
Late 1989 saw an opportunity to start Conversion Components and develop conversion kits for the Toyota range of bolt on gearboxes.
He currently owns a 100-6 Healey and 70's and 80's Jaguars. Everyday use is by a 1981 S3 XJ6 complete with 5 speed gearbox - absolutely magnificent on the highway.
Now in his 20th year designing and building gearbox conversions, Colin relocated from Waihi to Pencarrow Rd in Tamahere in January 2011. Now, working in a factory separate from his residence, this gives Colin the freedom to expand into different areas that were once not a feasible option.
Conversion kits are available for a whole range of classic and collectable cars and are supplied to clients all around the world, especially into the UK, USA, Europe and Australia as well as supplying the domestic market.
Currently Colin is developing the 1937 MG 6 cyl SA / WA engine to Sierra 5 speed gearbox.
Another in the wind is the 4 cyl Duratec ford Engine to RWD gearbox
A current personal project is the creation of a 1929 period special, starting with the complete rolling chassis of an American air-cooled 1929 Franklin
