Staying at the hostel next door, we decided to go for dinner at Cockles. We sat down at the terrace, and enjoyed an amazing Salmon Pate, Beers buttered blue cod and green lip mussels. Besides the food being really good, service was great. If you are looking for a nice place to have a chilled and tasty sea meal, I would definitely recommend it.
The food is absolutely delicious. The best seafood dish I have had in the 2 years being on the south island. Totally recommend people to come and experience the taste bud sensations on the menu. We are definitely coming back here again. Great service, value for money meals and a taste sensation. Also worth saying is there are alternative meals too. Give them a call.
We had the sphagetthi vandole which was amazing, wish it had more pasta in it for the price but the number of shellfish on top made up for it. Service was great, no problems there and the restaurant was well decorated as well. I personally liked the baked fish but it's a bit filling for a starter. Obviously we had to try the muscle platter, we went all in on green lip muscles!
The sauce of the vongole was pure cream with little to no seasoning. When pointing this out, waitress asked me if I didn't have salt and pepper on the table. Mfw We ordered extra bread since all of the sauces were very liquid. We got 8 slices of toast and were charged 12$. The clams themselves were very tasteful, I have to admit. I would advise tourists to try other places. There's enough in Picton to choose from.
I went in for a pint while waiting for the ferry. initially I wasn't expecting too much in terms of food, figured it would be just your average pub quality. Boy i was wrong. Ended up with the best fish and chips I've had in years
Great little restaurant, staff very attentive. Ordered the seafood platter which was just enough to leave you feeling content not sickly from trying to get through too much food, so serving size just right for two. A big plus was there was nothing deep fried, just fresh seafood.
A great place for supa delicious kai food. Wonderful customer service from Lisa and the team. Compliments to the chef/s. Thank u for your hospitality and gr8 kai. Blessings abundantly. Vicki Amai A++
Great little pub in Picton. We sat in the courtyard and loved the Salmon pate recommended by Amy one of the super helpful friendly staff. Great place to relax between jumping off the Cogar Line while waiting for the inter Islander.
This place is such a warm and inviting location, I highly recommend you come here while visiting Picton. I'm not sure if it was the owner or what but the guy that greater us and ran though the specials for us really made the visit great.
Our experience started well, with a very polite waitress. It's a little dark and daggy but not too bad and a good menu. It went down hill when the owner and his wife came in and started talking about tourists very rudely and within ear shot of us. Having looked at other reviews he clearly has a big problem with foreign people, so why open a restaurant in a tourist destination?? and next to ferry port?? When I challenged them the woman pulled a face and told me to mind my own business.
