Coast Law specialises in all aspects of succession law. We are particularly experienced in solving legal issues affecting Maori estates.
Coast Law is a Whakatane-based law firm (formerly located at Kawhia, Waikato). We are a boutique firm dealing mostly in the area of succession law - estate administration (applications for probate, letters of administration, transmission and transfer of general and Maori land, solving historic estate matters). We also advise on Maori land matters (includes preparing applications under Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993 and appearing in Maori Land Court), Elder Law (all types of wills and enduring powers of attorney), and Family Law (applications for appointment of property managers and welfare guardians and appearing in Family Court). We have a particular interest in historical research and have experience and expertise in this area (Maori Land Court records and other historical records).
Coast Law is owned and operated by Teena Jaram. I was born and raised in Whakatane but lived in the Waikato for many years and for a short time in Hauraki. My tribal affiliations are Mataatua, Te Arawa and Tainui. I was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2006. I am also a qualified historian having attained a master’s degree with first class honours in history from Te Whare Wananga o Waikato.
