The Earnscleugh Bridge is an iconic landmark and a testament to the engineering history of New Zealand and the vital role that bridges have played in the development of the country's infrastructure.nnThe original bridge had piers that date back to 1874.nnThe first bridge was a suspension bridge that was twice destroyed by floods.nnCurrent Bridge:nnThe current bridge, which replaced the older one, was opened in 1934.nnIt was rebuilt in 1935.nnIt was built upon the original bridges piers.nnTherefore, while parts of the bridge date back to the 1870's, the current structure was opened in 1934, and finished in 1935.
Good views from bridge.nGravel parking lot below it.nNo toilets, elderly picnic table probably safe to eat at
We went from Arrowtown direction down to Dunedin. This is a short, beautiful bridge right in the small town that crosses the Clutha river/Mata -Au. ynYou can see the bridge from the side of the Dam at the viewpoint. If you have time, you should visit the beautiful little town next to the river and the museum.
There’s a pretty good viewpoint by the playground, the bridge looks iconic :
We came to here due to a Chinese movie. It is really a peaceful town and really enjoyed it. Hopefully one day my Dumplings shop could open here with a happy ending.
