About

Claphams National Clock Museum

Story

When Archibald Clapham, in the country town of Yarm in Yorkshire, received a music box for his 7th birthday back in 1889, no one could have known it would be the start of a weird and wonderful museum on the other side of the World.
Archie’s passion for clocks and music boxes followed him to his new homeland and as his interest grew, so did the public interest. Archie’s collection became known all over the World and he enjoyed showing people his hundreds of clocks and music boxes in his own home. When Archie died in 1963, he had made sure the collection would live on, and since then, it has been on public display in his hometown of Whangarei. It is now not only Archie’s clocks, but many hundreds of others have been added to the collection.
If you think for a minute that clocks are just clocks, and a clock museum sounds a bit dusty and boring...you have not seen Claphams Clock Museum!

It happens every time…a nice couple from say Australia will drift into the Clock Museum, looking slightly bemused, and they have this look on their face “ is this really going to be much fun”…an hour or so later they come out beaming saying “ I havn’t had such a laugh since Roger ran the tractor over his foot!”

Amazing, interesting collection. Even if you thought you weren't interested in clocks this is a must-visit. One man's passion has become a quirky fascinating experience for everyone to enjoy.
The museum was so good and something else for an experience! Joey and Denise are excellent guides to take us through the museum! Great place to visit if you're in Whangarei.
If you love clocks, or just like clocks, or maybe never gave them a second thought, this place will open your eyes and make you smile. Well worth a visit and the staff were fantastic too.
Absolutely amazing. The history behind how all the different clocks came about is so interesting. Plus some of them brought back memories of what my grandparents had. There is also a shop to purchase watches as well as clocks.
A great place to stop off and visit while exploring the beautiful town of Whangarei. I was living at the marina so it was a short walk for me to get there. 6/5 stars. I hope to return someday.
Cute place my friend said to stop at. Tour available. Gift shop. Nice floral sundial out front. They will let you come in right up until close to closing but will kick you out exactly at 5pm, with no discounted price even.
Amazing display of clocks. Very friendly, helpful staff.
Excellent for our family. Tour with Sue was great and all the clock demonstrations were really interesting and fun. Totally enchanting!!!
Affordable with a personal tour of some of the clocks. Loved it. Full cred to the staff. Didn't find a tardis.
Day spent with some tik tok. Cute place with some pretty good collection but $10 is not justifiable as compared to the place. Host was also nice and i saw a time history video on her recommendation which was actually very informative. Overall experience was good.
