I went to see the paintings of Hilma af Klint. The first room I went to had the huge, amazingly impressive Temple canvases. They were hung in a dramatic line along one wall. They absorbed and overwhelmed me. The watercolours were interesting, the downstairs had smaller oils and older works. Everything was beautifully displayed for maximum effect. The staff were helpful and discreet.
Underwhelming. Seeing only "Modern art" I could probably make myself isn't really worth the trip. So many staff who were friendly and attentive but whats the point ? There's hardly any art open to the public and a huge empty room in the center of the building. Get some more art. Get better art.
The Hilma Klint show is a must see, it's crazy to think art work like this was being produced in the early 1900's, it's challenging, progressive, large, abstract, spiritual, surreal and ahead of it's time. Don't miss it !
A bit of a must see if you're passing by. You can spend 15 minutes or two hours here depending on your vibe. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the art on display.
Great venue. Amazing collection of art from NZ artists. I recognized a number of them. A very helpful person with lots of knowledge welcomed us. A really nice thing to do.
Not too impressive, but reasonable collection of art that deserves a visit.
Easy to overlook in Wellington as is near Te Papa but that would be a mistake. Changing exhibitions with a major review of Joanna Margaret Paul when we attended. Thoughtful curating with helpful staff and in a good location. Recommended
Peak Weimar-esque "art" on display. Here depicted was what one could call an "axe wound" juxtaposed to a natural female reproductive organ. These are on aliens, by the way. On top of that, there are a plethora of esoteric symbols and subtle messages which will necessarily be deeply disconcerting to the discerning eye. People were nice, though.
Great place to view artists/collections. Scored a free poster from a space dystopian type exhibition, to showcase a cool backdrop for already created pottery etc.
Always a nice experience at the gallery with the variety of works and helpful staff, so impressed by the level of customer service even just from walking in the door :
