Story

We are specialists in preschool music & group piano lessons for school aged students. Pre-schoolers may commence at ages 2, 3 or 4 years. For children ages 4yrs through to 15 years, we run group music classes with the piano being the learned instrument. Our classes involve: singing, percussion, rhythm, note-reading, music appreciation, musical / aural games, and much more! Our philosophy is based on a 'listen, then sing, then play, then read & write' approach to learning music.
Whilst our teaching style is really fun, our students develop impressive aural skills along with a range of fundamental musical skills such as singing in tune, composition, holding a part and harmony writing.

My son has been at Christchurch music academy learning drums for the last 6 years which he absolutely loves. We find the teachers and staff very friendly, professional and helpful. We would not choose any other music school. They are simply the best!
My 3 daughters are enrolled at Christchurch Music Academy, my eldest started when she was maybe 3 and is now over 8 years old. They absolutely love attending their classes. They are learning music in a lovely atmosphere, they feel welcome and valued. The teaching methods are really well adapted for children: with different strategies to learn/remember, adapted to most kids profiles listen/sing/play/read. My 2 oldest are now playing piano and their confidence is growing. I couldn't recommand Christchurch Music Academy enough !
I have been taking my granddaughters to Christchurch Music Academy since they were 2 years old they are now aged 5 and 7. Attending their music class is a highlight in their week as not only do they enjoy interacting with the teacher and other students but they love the sense of accomplishment as they learn new things. They have gained excellent music skills in reading music, playing the piano, music theory and singing. They have developed a true love of music thanks to Katie and the other teachers they have had through the years. In the 5 years I have interacted with them they have always been extremely professional and have had the best interests of the children foremost in their approach.
Thank you to the Christchurch Music Academy for supporting both our daughters with their piano tuition. The girls have been attending for over two years now. Our daughter who has an auditory processing condition has been supported by the tutors to develop skills to play music giving her confidence in other areas of her life. Katie has an understanding of children who are faced with different neurological conditions and knows how her programme can develop them in life!
As carers of our granddaughter, we have been attending music classes at Christchurch Music Academy since before she started school. That is nearly 6 years ago now. During that time we have had excellent rapport with all the teachers under the guidance of Miss Katie who has been extremely professional and very dedicated and who has always been helpful and supportive. We have been impressed by the way the teaching programme has maintaned our granddaughter's interest in playing music, learning theory and participating in the interactive musical games. It gives her a great sense of achievement and accomplishment to be able to work at and master her musical pieces. It is beneficial to her development to help provide stability and discipline through daily practice. Thank you Miss Katie and Team.
We've been a part of the CMA fold for over three years now. The wonderful teachers always ensure classes are fun and engaging whilst being educational.  It has been fantastic to see my daughter grow from strength to strength she sings in tune, can read music and plays piano beautifully.  Not only  has she benefited musically however, but she has developed friendships with the other children in her group class, grown in confidence and now has an appreciation for playing music in general.  Best of all piano practice is a task she willingly undertakes and is not seen as a chore.  I can't recommend CMA enough!
My children have been involved with this music school for over three years now. Their classes are a highlight of their and my week. The teachers are friendly and talented educators. The rooms are warm, bright and welcoming. As well as having fun their musical aptitude is going from strength to strength. My five year old plays piano with both hands. My seven year old can finally sing in tune. The Chch Music Academy classes are great value for money and an asset for the children of Christchurch. I love the easy parking too:
My daughter started when she was 1.5 years old, she has just turned 5 and loves her music lessons. Fun, engaging and its surprising what they learn and absorb at such an early age. She knows all the notes and scales and is loving learning the piano. Great all round musicianship while still making it a fun learning experience.
Just love the concept of this music programme. I have been taking my granddaughter since she was a wee 4 year old. Being a music teacher myself I had been super picky about what to enrol her in and I couldn’t be happier. She gets so much out of it. She loves singing along to the songs and enjoys getting to use the variety of instruments as well. So stoked she is now playing the piano with both hands after just a year and a half!! The programme is innovative and musically sound and the teachers always bring professionalism as well as a sense of fun.
If you want to attend a professionally run school, that ACTUALLY teaches your child music, then this is the pick. Great Staff, and a wonderful curriculum. Pricing is the same or similar to other schools of this type, and we have had absolutely no problem with communication in regards to re-enroling one of our children, and withdrawing another due to personal reasons. FYI - I read the other 3, 1 star reviews, and don't understand what their issues are, our family has had nothing but the best from CMA.
