We were informed by a local that this was the first church to be built in N.Z. There are in the external walls of the building musket shot holes created by historic fighting. The earliest burial grave we could find was 1845, but I am sure there are older ones. A truly well maintained church set in a picturesque  landscape. May stay forever.

Beautiful old building however It was closed when we visited on 26th of December

WOW such a beautiful church & to think it's the oldest in NZ!!!!nA must visit when in Bay of Islands, Russell has so much beauty & history I really loved walking here from Ferry & seeing the beautiful windows, alter cushions, flowers & graves was very mind blowing.
