After driving for a while we wanted to rest near this area, and this was the only free campsite is the neighborhood.nnIt is a very simple campsite on a parking area that is conveniently located near the highway. Opposed to many of the freedom campsites we visited, this location does not offer any spectacular views—it is a plain parking area in a village.nnThe toilets are very nearby and clean enough, but there is also a bar next to this parking area which was opened. The bar become more quiet at around 11pm with with drunk people shouting on the streets could be due to the All Blacks game that night.nnIt was an okay experience, but while we slept well probably due to being very fatigued, I can imagine light sleepers could have some trouble due to the road and bar besides the parking lot.
Two spaces clearly marked. Good location, straight off the main road. We arrived at 2100 and no one else here. Felt safe because you’re IN the little town centre. Toilets right next to the car park. Only down side is noise due to its location, lots of lorry’s driving past and by 8am it’s fairly busy on school runs etc so if you’re a mega light sleeper, it might be more challenging to sleep here.
Great Freedom Camping Spot. No signs up at the moment as they have just put in a new fence. Lovely little town with great information boards as you walk around. Clean Toilets. Cheviot Trust Hotel just across the road with lovely food. Dine in or Takeaways.
Don't need to park lengthwise as suggested. Mines 7.2 and was fine. Except, expecting people to wait till 8pm, on a Sunday, in Winter, if travelling alone, is too harsh. If tired, you need to stop.
All good for the night....bit small for 7m bus but we parked long ways sorry if we piss any1 off real close to shops
