10th March 2018. National Waikato Cheese Rolling Championships held yearly in Tokoroa
Welcome to Cheese Rolling Waikato!
Cheese Rolling is an ancient sport originating from Gloucester, England. Imported to the South Waikato by Marcus Maydon, it is an opportunity for the development of a national sport within NZ.
As far as we know, we are the only Cheese Rolling town in NZ and thus the winner here is the New Zealand Cheese Rolling Champion.
The opportunity arises for Tokoroa to gain experience and expertise such that when the sport over-runs rugby as the national sport we will have the heart of the countries talent in Tokoroa. From that point - the Olympics?
