Story

Chapman Engineering Limited has firmly established itself as an Innovative Leader in Canterbury’s Structural Steel Market and was the first Structural Steel Company in Christchurch to introduce a production line method of fabricating steel. The Company was formed in 1985 and specialises in
Fabricating and Erecting Structural Steel, utilising our own In-House Tekla Drawing and 3D Modelling for the Commercial, Industrial and Residential Markets along with Earthquake Strengthening. It also hires out its fleet of cranes under Mac Cranes division.
Chapman Engineering is renowned for its Innovation and ability to lead the Structural Steel Market.
The Company operates in State of the Art Facilities and is continually investing and updating Machinery, Technology and Training. The last 12 months has seen the Updating of the In-house Tekla Drawing and 3D Modelling, installation of Rollerbeds, Welding Booms, Peddinghaus Plate Machine, Strumis Reporting and Recording, Total Station (Site Surveying) and a New Peddinghaus PCD 1100 Drill and 1100-510 DG Mitre Bandsaw which automatically feeds, drills and cuts beams enabling the capacity to produce in excess of 150 tonne per week of fully fabricated and painted steel ready for site erection. We have also purchased a Peddinghaus Peddiwriter, which is a CNC structural steel marking machine which utilises Hypertherm ArcWriter plasma technology to produce layout marks on four sides of a structural profile. The latest machine to arrive is a Peddinghaus Ocean Clipper, this machine is designed exclusively for the fabrication of products known as “clips”. The machine consists of a shear along with one drilling spindle in line with a single punch. The Ocean Clipper creates holes in both legs of structural angles and shears it to length.

Chapman Engineering is now one of two only Structural Steel Fabricators in the South Island that is SFC Construction cat. 3 certified, (Steel Fabricator Certification) and AS/NZS ISO 3834 part 2. The focus is on quality assurance and removing risk for producers, it provides them with not only certainty of a product quality, but that they are dealing with a fabricator who has proven procedures and personnel that, together, represent international best practice. Significantly, the SFC scheme provides independent, expert certification of New Zealand fabrication companies to ensure they have the appropriate quality management systems in place to consistently produce compliant fabricated product of the required standard.
