Newhaven Holiday Park (NHP) offers the ultimate in beach camping at beautiful, remote, natural & unspoiled Surat Bay. Enjoy walking 3 kms of sandy beach, blessed with abundant wildlife – photograph our native treasure – the rare & endangered NZ sea lions sun bathing, or seals & occasional penguin visiting. Delight in native birdsong, sea birds, the sound of the surf, and panoramic coastal views.
NHP on the Catlins Southern Scenic Route offers modern accommodation options –from grassed tent sites, beach view powered sites, A-grade cabins, to self-contained tourist flats - it’s the ideal place to relax, stay, play and soothe your soul while exploring the magical Catlins coast – its spectacular waterfalls, lush rain-forests, scenic beaches, Jacks blow hole, Cathedral Caves, yellow eyed penguins – all from this eco-tourist base where the only footprint you leave is the one you make in the sand.
When camping at Newhaven Holiday Park, you can wake with the birds and start your day with a swim in the Moana Nui a Kiwa (South Pacific Ocean). Fancy a bushwalk through a totara rain forest or a coastal beach walk direct from the camp, crossing over False Islet, discovering a Maori Moa Hunters campsite, & arriving at Cannibal Bay.
Enjoy a spot of trout fishing, moonlight floundering, a round of golf, cycle the Catlins, beach horse treks, kayaking, sunrise or sunset beach rambles, free barbecues, and stop to say hello to the resident kereru’s (native wood pigeons), tui’s and bell birds.
