Cape Egmont Lighthouse is a lighthouse at Cape Egmont in the Taranaki Region of the North Island of New Zealand. It is owned and operated by Maritime New Zealand. The light was manufactured by Simpson & Co., Pimlico, London, in 1864 and erected on Mana Island to the north west of Porirua in 1865, but it was sometimes confused with the Pencarrow Head light at the entrance to Wellington Harbour and in 1877 the light was dismantled and moved to Cape Egmont. The light was demanned and fully automated in 1986.

Nice detour off Surf highway. Very picturesque lighthouse. Read reviews beforehand as entrance has been made to look private. Go to end of road and watch the rough surf hitting the large rocky foreshore.
Lovely place to be. We didn't get to go up the lighthouse nor lucky enough to see Mt Taranaki on its full presence but enjoyed our time there. Quiet and peaceful.
Good for a expirence but can't get in to the light house just can have a walk around and sea the beauty of the nature
A majestic view of the Lighthouse with Mt Taranaki at the back of it in a fine day is the selling pt of this landmark. Only a short drive off the main road, there’s no sign post on the main road pointing the location of the Lighthouse though.
Easy road to drive on, right in the rural country side. Look out for Falcons and Hawkes. Dairy farms all around, and an easy area to park your vehicle. Amazing building. If the clouds lift off the mountain you'll get a spectacular photo.
~40 mins drive from new plymouth, no clear sign how to get close to the light house. Gate was shut and chained when i got there
Beautiful view of the Taranaki mountain and sea view. Visitors has to go on a nice sunny day for the beautiful mountain background view. Car parking spaces upto 5 are available near the sea.
Well worth a look. You have to travel on some gravel roads and at times it is narrow. At the end of the road the view is beautiful and the lighthouse is cute, but you can't get into it at times of the year due to bad weather. We went in July and it was really windy & cold.
