This is a new Mexican restaurant in the UWS. Went there after a concert, and the vibe of the place was really nice. The decor, especially around the bar, looks nice. I would add some more interesting decor to improve even more though. The food is good and above average for mexican restaurants. The camarones dish was my favorite, very well presented and tasty. I wish I had more tortillas to eat the dish with, though. I would not recommend the avocado mousse as desert, it was pretty bland to me. Overall a good experience!
Not your average menu and they have an extensive tequila / mezcal cocktails and mocktails list. The margaritas were good, but the food wasn't very tasty. We got the tacos and the shrimp dish and neither of us were happy with the food. The atmosphere is very nice though and they have outdoor seating. Feels overpriced for what it is.
Amazing Mexican food. This is what I always hope to find when I visit Mexico. Flavor and presentation are better than a lot of michelin restaurants. Tucked between shake shack and sushi gari, we didn’t see a sign and had to double check address before walking in. We went at 4:15 when most other restaurants stay closed between lunch and dinner service, and this place was already filling up. We weren’t drinking but the cocktails looked great too.
An absolutely fantastic restaurant! Sublime flavours, each dish is a 10/10. You must go! The environment in the restaurant is also so unique and cozy.Recommended dishes
Gave a four because the chicken enchiladas had dark meat and I had to ask twice for the check after waiting 20 minutes since the first time I asked. The rice, beans, esquites, and guacamole were good. The veggie enchiladas were ok. I'd go back to try something else. Vegetarian options: Veggie enchiladas
Covacha is a great place to come to enjoy Mexican cuisine. The food was so good and interesting. It is a great option for vegetarians and vegans with a wide variety of choices. Vegetarian options: Great selection of vegetarian options - definitely get the mushroom tacos
After a recent visit to New York City for wedding dresses, we stopped on our walk and ate the most amazing Mexican food at Covacha. The name of the restaurant tells a lovely story of planting new roots where you go, while still paying homage to the home you will always cherish, no matter where you end up in life. The food was incredible and homemade, and the pork in this “Quesadilla Negra” was to die for. If you are searching for a taste of home in a city, this is the place to visit regularly. The food wasn’t the only thing that made us feel like we were in a good friend’s home, eating a meal. The staff was incredibly friendly and our waiter and waitress stopped to talk to us for long periods of time. Even the chef stepped outside to deliver our food. The waitress we had was so sweet and told us about her new life in the big city. It felt like we had been welcomed into someone’s home to eat a home cooked meal. Nothing beats that or can ever mimic it. If you have the time, make a reservation here. You will be back for much, much more than incredible food and drinks.
It is like Chick-fil-A and a fancy Mexican Restaurant had a baby. This was our 2nd visit. It’s not cheap, but the servers are the seriously the nicest I’ve experienced in nyc over the the last four years. We’ve only ever ordered covaches, and sides not the plates. The portions for the covaches are small, but the food is very tasty. For cost purposes splitting the chicken enchiladas my favoritecovaches and then one meal from the Platos would work well because then you get the salsa and chips with it. The papas machas as a side do not disappoint! The flautas are okay, and the orchard molotes was unique and tasty. The sangria is deep red and ore dry than sweet. The Buñuelo was delightful and light.
We went last Wednesday night at 6:30 for dinner. We had a reservation and were seated upstairs. There are three tables up there and it's a tight fit. It was early and the tables were about 75% occupied, with no one seated around the bar. We had both options for the guacamole appetizer and they were delicious. I had chicken enchiladas and those were good too. The food and the margaritas had a tasty, smoky flavor. Our dinner guest and I had ceramic plates, while my husband was served on a plastic plate, which I found odd and sub-standard. Servers were pleasant but scarce. It was hard to get their attention, even when they came upstairs. We sat waiting for the check with uncleared dirty plates sitting in front of us for quite a while. Not the experience I expected for the price.
Truly phenomenal Mexican food. Service was good. One of the few Mexican restaurants in NYC that’s worth the trip to eat at.
