Ever dependable. We have dined many times at Bully Hayes Restaurant, with different people. Our visit today was an enjoyable and satisfying as always. As group of 8 vegetarians, we had 2 x bread & dips platters, 1 garlic load, 1 x 3 cheese croquettes and 2 x Margherita pizzas. The wait time for food was very less, the food came quicker than expected. Everything was well presented and delicious. We all had a satisfying meal. They seem to have expanded the menu, offering more choices for vegetarians like us. I would happily dine here again.
Can’t honestly recommend this place. The location is nice, service is okay, not so much about the food. The chowder seems the only thing praise-able among what we order. The beef with Yorkshire pudding is alright, but the portion is just too shy from its full main dish price, our friends chicken burger is supposedly nice. But the paella is particularly bad, not only it didn’t come in a skillet with a nicely crispy and caramelized bottom instead of a cold plate, the rice was completely over cooked instead of Al dente, not too far from rice porridge to be honest, the seafood tasted separately cooked from the rice and were only put on top of it in the end, the whole dish make people wander if the kitchen knows what they r doing.
We had breakfast at the Bully Hayes. It was recommended to us by the lady who works at the L’Escargot Rouge. Everything was amazing, the food, the service, everything. The portion sizes were good as well. Will definitely recommend it to everyone and we will definitely eat here again.
Beautiful view. Friendly staff. Food did look good when it was set in front of us. But... We Asked that the meat be medium to rear, it wasn't and it was hard to chew ended up not finishing the meal. The mussels was good just think the sauce was very thin like water that was just added in to the mussel bowl after the mussels was placed in the bowl, also feel they could of given more bread with it. Still felt hungry after this meal. I also Asked for lot of ice with my dink only added like a few little blocks that was almost already melted when brought to our table. The Heineken on tap was a 10/10. For the price we paid i don't feel it was worthwhile. Other that that we enjoyed the view under the shade. Bathrooms are clean and neat.
The Garlic Bread was awesome and the array of Tapas was very nice. The creme brulee was very nice but the Affagato was not as described in the menu, albeit nice. A bit disappointed in the fact they started packing up around us on the foreshore and the ambience went from a nice peaceful evening to a flood lit area, meanwhile the inside was very busy - there was no reason for them to do that. They also ran out of cutlery and served soup spoons for desert spoons. They also mucked up the account and our $89 Tab became a $200 Tab - so check your Tabs If there were no issues they would have been up to a 4 or 5 depending overall visit. Sadly a lot of things overshadowed the food.
Great food coupled with good views across the harbour. The menu is pretty huge with lots of food and drink options, including a separate kids menu. The kids menu included an activity pack which had heaps to keep the kids entertained. Meals are quite pricey; even the 'light meal' options were at the top end of the thirties with just a few dollars difference between those and the main meals. Kid-friendliness: The kids menu included four or five meal options plus an activity pack which had heaps to keep the kids entertained.
Great Service. Food was good, too. Toilet is unacceptable for a restaurant with this pricetag. Too narrow. And when you close the door there is still a small lid where you can look through.Food: 4/5
We visited on a Sunday. Not too busy thanks to covid. However prices are always exorbitant at akaroa. Be prepared to spend a decent amount for an average food. Taste and quantity. We had fish burger 27.5$, fish and chips 34.5$, chips 10$, 3 mocktails 10$ each, Coffee x2 6$ each, salmon bruschetta 18.5$, almond cake 7$, Margarita pizza 25$. Overall bill 200$ which is way too much for the quantity of food and quality. But then this is akaroa…
Have been there two times. Tried seafood platter, fish taco and spinach pasta. The prawns in spinach pasta are very tasty and fresh. Seafood platter is good size for two people. Coffee was nice too. Will definitely try something new on our next trip.
Very relaxing beach atmosphere, nice staff, great views and the burger had all fresh ingredients and came together perfectly. Highly recommended popping in after having a shop around the local storesFood: 5/5
