This is a quirky place! Very pretty setting with a quick walk to the mine historical area. The house is old, but has a fully appointed kitchen with dishwasher, free WiFi, and a smart TV, so we were even able to stream and cast a movie while staying there. The other guests were very nice even bringing in more firewood for us for the fireplace. It was good for a one night stay as we were passing through.
The cutest hostel ever, such a cosy, homey place to stay. Lovely owners, and loved the free bike hire and abundance of books and old atlases in the common room. Just stayed one night but we wished we could have stayed longer! 10/10 would recommend.
We had to stay there for one night because there were no facility left in Greymouth due to a big event. As we were travelling with intercity coaches, we struggled to figure out how to go there. We asked the owner how to do it and he actually came at the main station in Greymouth to pick us up. The accommodation itself is quite old, but clean and functional. The price-quality ratio is really good. For the return trip, the owner offered to take us back as well, but the time didn't match our schedule, so we declined. He then came back again and offered us another time. Thank you very much John for everything!
Don’t go thr!!!! Especially If u hav young children and need a safe healthy place to stay Do Not Go to this Lodge!!!!!wouldn’t give a single star!!!!! Dirty, smelly n what not!!! Well equiped yes tht includes months old left over etc in the kitchen John the owner A Big Liar Don’t fall for his warm gesture My room was booked by a friend which was ensuit plus with kitchen and John said theres no such available for a month! So without making any fuss we just paid n left . Until next day whn my friends arrived he gave d same room to them!!!! I tried to talk to John he literally started hiding one of his caravan!! So please don’t waste ur time , money or energy after this place, u will thank me later. We still wondering Hw do people run a business like this , is thr no inspections etc?Neil poking out of d floor Bedroom carpet floor was wet Dust everywhere Tht Smell!!! minute u park d car . Dog in d property going even inside d lodge. PS: thr is another comment mentioned tht this place is available for a reason, Very Well Said!!! Totally agreed
A home away from home! John, Brian and especially Rosie have made it a lovely warm place for the weather battered traveller... Definitely recommendRooms: 5/5
Started with an upgrade, found out that there's all the kitchen ware etc. no small prints or extra costs, there was oil, eggs, coffee etc.. Saw a nice gig just next door and were offered few beers by the host. Then my son scratched the owner's car with our car's door -> was offered even more toys There's no other option than giving 5/5!
Friendly genuine host and accom is great value for money. Its a budget backpacker with historic character and a short drive to start of the Paparoa Trail. Would stay again.Rooms: 5/5
It there is a negative star that would be my rating. I did choose this accomodation as we had stayed here before and we did like it. However during our booking this Easter, the owner double booked us. So when we went to the place, they couldn't accommodate us as the room that we booked thru HostelWorld was already occupied. Imagine, this is in the middle of long weekend and Easter. This incident had caused us so much stress as all of the accomodations were full. It took us almost 3 hours to find a place to sleep. We ended up staying at the last place available there's a reason why it was available and had terrible experience. The owner then texted me and said that there was a room avail a late checked out after we found a place already. I will not recommend this place at all
Last minute booking, host a great guy, friendly, accommodating and organised. Hostel very basic but clean and everything we needed, I mean at the price point what do expect!! So glad there are still places like this for average kiwi families to get away to, many places are simply out of the average kiwi families price range. Beautiful setting and nice walks we had a great couple of days break 2 adults and a 6 year old.
John was very kind and approachable, my 2 daughters and I enjoyed our stay. We're lucky to get a last minute booking! Very affordable. We will be going back there next time we travel to greymouth. Thank you for having us xox Michelle, and kidsRooms: 5/5
