Matt was raised on a dairy farm in Havelock, where his Dad always taught him and his two brothers to fix everything. Some utter junk was produced in those early days, but as years went by, he kept trying. Matt left school at an early age and found a job in Engineering. Here, he was given the menial jobs but soon proved he has what it takes, and was sent to jobs ranging from structural to general to straight repairs on heavy machinery. Matt also started building and racing his own speedway cars and has continued to do so for 25 years or so now.
One of Matt's previous employers contacted him to ask if he wanted to help build a couple of boats - and Matt always being up for a challenge, jumped at the chance. This is where he discovered his new found love of alloy boat building, and in next to no time at all, was running the workshop & eventually taking on a contract with Naiad in Picton to build New Zealand boats after becoming a qualified level 4 Custom Design & Fabricated Alloy Boat Builder. Some of those boats Matt built include the Auckland Coast Guard, Havelock Coast Guard, Hawaii Pilots Boat and the more high-spec super yacht tenders for Germany. Alongside this, Matt also sunk his teeth into building custom design horse trucks & motorhomes where his passion for building things others only dream of truly honed in on Matt's skill and eye for detail.
