Stopped in for a coffee on a wet and miserable day and was hit by the aroma of the pies so just have to have one. The BEST venison pie i have ever had, full of big chunks of meat and a delicious gravy, just awesome!. The coffee was a damn nice accompaniment too!
Awesome little place for a bite. Got the venison pie and a flat white for $12.90 total. The pie was huge, delicious and served with a bit of salad. Coffee was superb. Lovely little garden to eat on on a nice day.Food: 5/5
Quaint and homey gift shop / cafe in Mossburn with some of the best pancakes I’ve ever eaten. We stopped over for breakfast on our drive from Te Anau to Queenstown, and got the bacon & eggs $13.50 scrambled with toast, and the pancakes with mixed berries, fresh cream, yoghurt & maple syrup $13.50. The pancakes were so light and fluffy, and the accompaniments were so delicious that I wolfed down all my pancakes immediately and I wasn’t even that hungry to begin with. Coffee was good as well. The gift shop also has interesting things to look at while you wait for your food.
Mossburn is known for its deer, so could not go past the homemade venison pie from Bracken Hall cafe. It was excellent, served with a sauce plum? that made the meal.Recommended dishesVenison Pie & Ham Cheese Pineapple Toastie
On the plus side this place has great pies and generally they do a great coffee. Food is a mix of cabinet options plus simple menu items. Theres a good selection of alternate milks including oat. There’s a shop to browse in, toilets to use, and a petrol station right beside it. Great pit stop all round. On the minus side the service leaves something to be desired. I think the best way to describe it is ‘distracted’. The ladies don’t exactly make you feel welcome - not because they are not friendly but just that they are so busy chatting away to each other. This also results in nearly every time I’ve been there they’ve gotten something wrong with my order.
Delicious venison pie, good service and just the best toilets around. We time our trips to te anau so that we can stop there. And fun store with interesting stuff while you wait. Parking: Plenty on street
Had some hot chocolate with pink marshmallows. It was really good! The staff was really friendly and had a great zeal for life. Definitely worth stopping in.Service: 5/5

Come here if you want to experience the best pies in NZ. Venison or chicken, both outstanding. Hope this place will remain open for many years to come.
