Bob Burnett Architecture is dedicated to creation of beautiful architecture with individual character and in harmony with nature and the environment.
With over 30 years’ in the architecture industry, Bob Burnett has experience both in commercial and residential architecture, as well as construction and contract administration. Bob worked for leading architects in Christchurch prior to starting his own firm in 1999. There is a significant Japanese influence throughout his designs which was enhanced when Shizuka Yasui, a registered architect of Japan, joined the firm in 2000. Bob has been a Professional Member of ADNZ since 2000, garnering numerous design awards over the years for a diverse range of projects.
The practice philosophy is to create delightful living while optimising performance and value. Solar and passive design is pivotal to this ethos, with Bob Burnett Architecture having championed energy-efficient, environmentally sound design for nearly two decades. There is a strong focus on creating both beautiful buildings and high performance thermal envelopes to achieve lower running costs along with better health, comfort and wellbeing.
Bob has a particular interest in insulated precast concrete panel construction due to its excellent thermal mass properties and has also developed construction details to eliminate thermal bridging. He favours off site building methodologies that are aligned with Passive House principles.
A certified Homestar Assessor and Green Building Council member, Bob designed and developed New Zealand’s first 10 star Homestar rated home. After its completion on 4th August 2015, the Superhome Movement was founded, which gained momentum initially in Canterbury and is now gathering traction nationally. A not-for-profit industry lead initiative, the Superhome Movement aims to promote high performance building in for New Zealand homes.
