Owner of Boat House Collectables, Joel Taylor, began modelmaking as a hobby from the age of seven and a portion of the business is dedicated to kitset modelling. Joel’s hobby preceded the crafting of items commercially which occurred around 18 years of age. For six years Joel’s occupation was one-off cabinet making, and furniture finishing and polishing.
Joel is a Sydney trained professional modelmaker and this has been his career for 30 years. Through the decades Joel has worked on projects for film and television. His latest local models are the 3D representation of the Hawke’s Bay Museum and Art Gallery, and the Te Mata Peak Visitor and Education Centre proposed development.
Joel has squared away a vast knowledge of hand craft skills which are necessary to produce unique and quality items. Combine all this experience with a heartfelt passion for historic, unique and miniature productions plus an interest in local maritime history, and you navigate toward the range of kitset models and authentic maritime memorabilia which defines Boat House Collectables.
