The views are incredible. We booked a cabin and it was really spacious, we even had our own toilet and bathroom. I slept half of the journey.
Pretty cool way to get from the north island to the south island or vice versa. Probably best to reserve your trip beforehand, you then drive up to the dock Waterloo Quay, just after Bunny St if you’re coming from the SE give the gate agent your reservation details we printed ours and another agent will direct you to a specific lane where you’ll wait before actually boarding the ship. Once boarding starts, more agents will direct you to where you’ll actually park in the ship I think there are 2 levels deck 3&4, you then get your stuff and go up to the passenger decks. Deck 5 is for everyone, it has chairs, tables, dining area, restrooms, viewing decks. Deck 6 is where the cabins are, you have to pay extra to access these but they’re pretty useful if you just plan on resting/sleeping during the trip, some even have their own restroom / showers. Deck 8 is the top of the ship and offers great views especially when leaving Wellington and just before you get to Picton.
Been on the Bluebridge Ferry a few times, to and from Wellington. A nice and easy process to get your vehicle on and off, The staff are well organized friendly and helpful. The ferry is spacious and good hot food options available.
I recently traveled between the two main islands of New Zealand using the BlueBridge ferry service and was thoroughly impressed. The vehicle loading was efficient and well-organized, and the optional cabins for passengers were clean, warm and comfortable. The facilities, including the restaurant, sitting areas, and toilets, were also excellent.nnFor a long time, the 'Interislander' service was the gold standard for inter-island travel, but no more. Now is the era of BlueBridge.nnBlueBridge has truly raised the bar for ferry services in New Zealand, making inter-island travel a pleasure.
We arrived half a day early and managed to easily catch an earlier sailing. Minimal fuss and it got us where we needed to go in luxury with access to food and drink...especially coffee, as we hadn't slept in over 30 hours.nVery slick and professional.
