We went to Blue Ox Babe tonight originally planning to grab burgers… and wow, we are so glad we didn’t stick to the plan. The Asian fusion menu completely blew us away.nnEvery dish felt thoughtfully created and packed with flavour. Each plate was cooked perfectly with great flavour.nnThe staff really elevated the experience, from the moment we arrived, they made us feel genuinely welcome and special.nnIncredible food, and service that makes you want to come straight back again.nnWe came for burgers… and left discovering one of our new favourite dining spots when in town!
Good variety of meats and sides, great choice to enjoy some sharing platters with large groups - you can see the industrial smoker in the kitchen from the dining tablesnnQuite pricey but it's okay once in a while!nnHighlight was probably the beef cheeks, will need to try the ribs next time~nnEverything else was just average for us: Pork belly, mac n cheese, cucumbers, duck friedrice and fried chicken wings

Amazing service, food was great and the atmosphere was to die for. My best friend booked us a reservation for my Birthday and I couldn’t have felt more better. This Saturday was a chill slow night which was amazing for us. If you love Asian bbq and a hearty meat bbq — I would actually recommend this place to anyone !! They serve amazing food 10/10 !!!!
I took a train from Auckland to visit this small town today, and decided to try this restaurant because of its high ratings. Unfortunately, the actual experience was quite disappointing.nnFirst of all, the prices are very high. The food shown in the photo plus a small mango dessert cost over NZD 60 in total.nnSecondly, the restaurant’s most popular brisket NZD 30 was very tough and not flavorful. I could only eat it by pairing it with the pickles on the side. When I ran out of pickles, I asked the staff if I could have just a tiny bit more—I even emphasized that I only needed a very small amount to finish the last pieces of meat.nnShe did not tell me there would be an extra charge, and brought me a small ice-cream–cup–sized portion. At checkout I found out that the few extra pickles cost NZD 5.25. I honestly feel that with this quality and pricing, it would be very difficult for the restaurant to survive in any busy area of Auckland.nnThis experience definitely affected our overall impression of the town.nThat said, to be fair, the mango dessert was genuinely quite good.nnOverall, it was a rather disappointing visit.
