We had a lovely stay at the Blue Heron. Cathy and Trevor were really helpful and do an excellent job at keeping everything clean and tidy. Our cabin was perfect for the 3 of us, very clean on arrival. The spot is beautiful, and size really lovely where it felt very safe for the wee ones to get about. The kitchen is great, as is the bbq area. The showers set up really well with shelf and hook for towel. And all cleaned well.
A beautiful spot that we unfortunately did not get the chance to stay at. After booking and paying a week in advance and driving 6 hours, we were greeted by a rude staff member who told us all the tent sites were rained out and we would not be able to set up. We asked why no effort was made to contact us the storm blew through the night before we arrived at 4 pm, and she said she was unable to tell from the online booking system what type of site we had booked. This seems like something that could have been solved with a 60 second phone call, or a quick email. We also wonder if they could not have deduced what type of site we paid for by checking the amount we paid. No effort was made by the staff member to offer us alternative accommodation and we were told the credit card transaction fee could not be refunded despite the fact we received nothing from this business but rude service and bad communication. We had to drive an hour back the way we came to stay at Waipu Cove instead and very glad we did as it turned out to be a much better spot! Two stars because there was a cute ginger cat outside reception. Visitors beware! We have never had such atrocious service at a holiday park in New Zealand. Update: lowered to one star following vitriolic response from the owners claiming we should have called in advance to confirm our already confirmed and paid for booking. Before booking please ask yourself if any beautiful view is worth this much hassle. Not even a cute ginger cat can make up for such poor management. I repeat, visitor beware!!
Lovely place. Idyllic setting with a boutique feel. The main parking area juts out into the harbour so is surrounded by the sea in three sides making it feel like you are on an island which is quite unique. It was very quiet during the night. Having paid about the same as other places to stay, was surprised they wanted more to use the shower. That wasn’t disclosed on the web site. We didn’t have coins so went without. Cost one star. Otherwise a gem of a place waiting to be discovered.
I rarely write reviews and certainly not 1 star reviews. First reason: So the bad experience started when we got an email at 8am on Friday arrival day saying the camps been flooded, the floods happened several days prior to that day and surely they would have had enough time to send out communication sooner. We were left scrambling for alternative accommodation which was impossible for LAB and the long weekend. We ended up calling several days later and scored a cabin for our last night of travel. Second reason: when we arrived the lady who met us in the office was extremely rude and passive aggressive for no reason at all. Not sure if she’s trying to be funny or what but you don’t treat paying customers in that way. I asked for five dollars in coins for the showers and she aggressively replied “you’re only here for one night”. Unsure why someone would turn down money going towards their facility, what she didn’t realise is we hadn’t showered for days due to their poor communication from the start which forced us to freedom camp with no running water or showers, so yes, we were looking forward to a long shower. Then when I asked if their campsite gates closed off at a certain time to prevent us from getting locked out she replied, once again in an aggressive way “did you see any gates” Who ever this lady is, she needs to seriously do something about her tone and attitude. The campsite itself was nice, however, the service was shocking. No one cares how nice the site is, if the friendliness isn’t there, no one’s gonna return. Hope the owners review this feedback and take some serious actions to fix things up.
great little campsite. lovely at high tide. oysters on the rocks are sharp as razors though, be careful and stay off them.
Loud gathering in the main house to be fair it was a sat. Loud 80 bangers playing in the toilets seemingly all night. Extra $ needed for shower, laundry. Not a friendly place but ok. Was pretty glad when we left again.
Lovely place ! Awesome views good facilities and nice people, would stay here again . Just a bit of confusion when booking, you have to confirm in the email they send you Didn’t see this in email and turned up lucky they had a spot for us .
The owners are very friendly and welcoming. The sites along the edge of the water and under a canopy of trees are so beautiful. We were in a rooftop tent so we could see over the hedges very easily the other side doesn't have tall hedges, we had beautiful uninterrupted views of the water. So peaceful and serene here we decided to extend one more night. Love how it's dog friendly too. Great spots for fishing even without a boat/kayak, unfortunately we didn't catch any snappers big enough to keep so we will be coming back again!
Owners are amazing always go that extra mile and are so helpful, they never fail to make my stay unforgettable! my favourite place to stay when I’m up in whangassss it’s so homey and the location and views are spectacular all photos taken on blue Heron property! Nice bush walk near buy and videos to hire from office and a beach to swim right at your fingertips it’s literally paradise
What can I say... such a beautiful place with serene surroundings one can not ask for more. Ideal for any occasion, close enough to whangarei incase of emergencies. The eateries surrounding this Oasis are beautiful to dine at. And after a bizzi day....... it's the place to be! Highly recommend this place to EVERYONE traveling or holidaying up this way. And last but not least the HOSTS, are beautiful people and very welcoming and hospitable.
