We wanted to like this place, but sadly we would not go back. The place was pretty empty when we showed up and there were easily 20 tables available. We had to sit and wait over 10 mins for them to set our table. The food was ok, but seemed to lack seasoning over all. Plus the prices were very high for the sizes especially what were considered mains but were appetizer size. The wines list is very over priced with charging over $20+ a glass for a $38 bottle. I felt bad because there was only one chef in the kitchen and no one else, not even a dish washer. Only 2 staff total on the floor, which I am sure is a reflection of COVID red status at the moment. The staff were very nice but moved with a lackadaisical vibe.
My wife and I just experienced the full degustation and wine pairing experience here. There are few words that adequately describe the experience. Outstanding, exquisite, sublime don’t quite do it justice. From the moment we walked through the door till when we left, the lovely Swiss Australian girl and handsome French African gentleman treated us like royalty. Every dish was carefully introduced and its complimentary wine, loving described. Each dish, so perfectly presented and with flavours, so well balanced and complimentary.. it was difficult to eat without making audible noises of pure satisfaction. Gordon Ramsey who? This chef, is unparalleled. A genuine artist and artisan. Sir, you blew us away with every course. This experience may have cost a small fortune, but every cent was well worth it. A rare pleasure that will not be quickly forgotten. We thank you.
What a treat!! Husband and I felt like we were taken to Europe for the night. We had the tasting menu and were so glad we did. The food was exquisite. We both reckon it was one of our best meal EVER. The dishes were varied, well presented and very well executed. I am dairy free and I mostly didn't feel like I was missing out. The service was impeccable. The waitress was present to answer any questions and was very knowledgeable. The wines were fantastic... elegant and distinctive. How refreshing to find Gamay or Chenin Blanc on the menu too. The atmosphere was warm and modern. We will be back! Thank you again for helping us celebrate our anniversary. Dietary restrictions: I ate dairy free
Without a doubt, the best restaurant that I have been to in Napier. The dining room is set out along a long and narrow building with the kitchen and bathroom toward the back. The decor is very unique and finished well. The food is the highlight of Bistronomy, changing seasonally it is well thought out. Service is also impeccable, our server knew all aspects of the menu. I would recommend Bistronomy for a date night or an intimate dinner with friends.
Lovely interior decoration and great atmosphere, suitable for dates or family dinners. Our hostess/waitress was very accommodating and welcoming. We had the beef Wellington and the pork hock/pork belly with a side of fries and bread for starters. The portion is decent and quality is very good. The hock/pork belly was a little dry for me but it was still very good. The beef cheek Wellington was very moist and the pastry was super! It was definitely our favorite dish. The dessert was very good also. The chips and bread was a good compliment. They have a good selection of NZ wine and we got the Hopes Grove Syrah, very nice I must say. Would definitely come back next time I visit Hawkes Bay
The 3 rd experience of fine dining / degustation menu. Once again walked in and the staff were very accommodating but had to sit at bar as no space even though I arrive at 8.15 pm. The food got served in quick pace. The set menu is part of their A la carte. I got house bread with cauliflower, sashimi and chicken wing for entree. For mains beetroot risotto and mussle fish fennel powder. The fennel powder was nice n new to me. Dessert was mocha cake I think. Overall 107$ with drink which is expensive as the food didn’t contain many expensive items. Thus value for meal is 3 or less but taste definitely 4-4.5. Reading other comments indeed the food quantity is small but if u r dinning a set menu then u do have 4 to 5 dishes to go thru n that fills you up with drinks. Guess if one is in 20s or a big eater, then yes food is quantity is tiny. The small quantity probably holds true for a number of degustation menus I have been too. Once again for an occasion / one time affair.. ———————————- Visited again Apr 2021. This time I was very disappointed. I reached at 2040hrs and the staff agreed to seat me but the kitchen was really closing and I would have preferred the straight answer of not being able to dine, rather than a half hearted attempt. Steaks and anything that’s took longer than 10 mins wasn’t allowed and neither was dessert.. I prolly Shd have left myself. I had chicken wings which weren’t wings at all but crispy fried batter on top of chicken pieces. 17.25$ for piece of 4. Poor taste and felt worse than kfc to be honest. 1/5 for value n taste. Organic chicken was 29$ which was a thick piece of chicken breast with not much taste. 1/5 for value n taste unfortunately. The cocktail Sicilian 20$ Was prolly the highlight. Overall 67$. Not worth it at all..
Exceptional busy night being mondayised boxing day. Good was very good as expected, ordered rib eye steak on the bone, ordered at $15 for 100g ,think we got 600g not as tender as hoped, also we ordered a 1/2 beef cheek Wellington very tender and wholesome, surprised not to find mushroom duxelle. Paired with a delicious decibel pino noir finished the dish off perfectly.
The food and service were both great. We ordered Good Fish and Beef Cheek Wellington as mains and Hash Brown as side. They were all cooked beautifully; and the Beef Wellington was the champion.
Excellent, interesting food and attentive staff. Thoroughly enjoyed all courses see pics and good wine pairings. Given the quality of the food I think the tasting menu represented pretty good value for money. It's quite a small restaurant so reservations recommended.
If you love food, healthy eating and great service, you just have to try Bistronomy! We selected the Chef’s choice of 6 plates and wow, we anticipated each deliciously different and artistically plated dish with delight and thoroughly enjoyed the total Bistronomy experience. Excellent wine selection too. Be adventurous and go with house recommendations as the staff are knowledgeable and attentive. Make sure you book in advance.
