We moved into the big house across from the rock in about 1963-64 , I was about 3 yrs old , my dad built us kids canoes and taut us how to run rapids and fall out and refloat.nHe discovered the rock from the river and made a track back to the road. As we started using it regularly it became popular and people started calling it Jansses rock. . Weve been gone from there since 1969 and things are pretty much the same except the river was alot deeper then .nGood to see its still a popular area.
Great! Not the easiest access, but definitely better than other swimming spots along the Hutt River. Also doesn't get as crowded as the most popular Maoribank. And surprisingly, I had 5G reception!
Great river swimming, but for confident swimmers only. The deep water and strong currents need to be respected.
