So, let me set the record straight for the people who want to complain. This is an "On-Demand" bridge. That means it is opened when a boat calls for it to be opened. The opening is up to the boat captain and not the bridge employee. A lift, on average, takes 12 to 20 minutes from opening to closing. If you are in a hurry. Find another bridge!!! The Coast Guard requires that the lift of the bridge be a full open each time. Again, that is not determined by the bridge operator. So, for all of the complainers, contact the Coast Guard or the ship captains. Not the fault of the bridge employee. For those people who think the bridge is too slow, try opening a bridge that weighs 761.5 tons in a hurry and see if you can do it any faster in a safe manner.
Where did our taxes go? Why cant we build another bridge nearby? The other alternative of this bridge is the Varina bridge and the one in Richmond which are far West. There should be an alternative nearby East. Make America Great Again! We should stop giving money to other countries as if it out from the pockets of the politicians. It should be USA first.
They need a new bridge. We've been sitting here 30 minutes waiting for the boat to get out to the Chesapeake. Fix the problem, it should not take this long. They put the bridge up atleast 15 minutes before the boat was even in sight. Fix it
Check ahead of time for bridge closures as this seems to be the case often due to repair work
Beautifully maintained OLD bridge. Hate the long waits for tall boats, but when the weather is nice it makes life slow down for enjoyment and beauty of the river and scenery East of Hopewell.
I had to wait at this drawbridge for about 45 minutes while in a time crunch. Schedule openings not easily obtainable
All bridges should be built like this makes you feel safe
Bridge itself is great but the wait time for openings can be awful.
