Story

The Beehive is the common name for the Executive Wing of the New Zealand Parliament Buildings, located at the corner of Molesworth Street and Lambton Quay, Wellington. It is so-called because of its shape is reminiscent of that of a traditional woven form of beehive known as a "skep". It is registered as a Category I heritage building by Heritage New Zealand.HistoryScottish architect Sir Basil Spence provided the original conceptual design of the Beehive in 1964. The detailed architectural design was undertaken by the New Zealand government architect Fergus Sheppard, and structural design of the building was undertaken by the Ministry of Works. The Beehive was built in stages between 1969 and 1979. W. M. Angus constructed the first stage - the podium, underground car park and basement for a national civil defence centre, and Gibson O'Connor constructed the ten floors of the remainder of the building.Bellamy's restaurant moved into the building in the summer of 1975–76 and Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of New Zealand, unveiled a plaque in the reception hall in February 1977. The Prime Minister, Robert Muldoon, formally opened the building in May 1977. The government moved into the upper floors in 1979. The annex facing Museum Street was completed in 1981.

The Children Tour at Beehive is Brilliant its very informative not just for kids but also for adults accompanying them throughout. The kids enjoyed the whole trip and the best part was when they were taken to the Press Room they were allowed to stand on the rostrum and were allowed to give there very own little speech We had a lovely tourist guide and very friendly staff. Its a must visit if you are on a trip to Wellington with young children.
A must see in Wellington, we went on a Sunday and the 12PM tour was awesome. If you're going there make sure to go on the free public tour
Government tour was informative, interesting and surprised that it was free. Violetta was our guide and she was genuinely passionate about her job and was tastefully quirky - she knows a lot about our government! Thanks for showing us around! A great addition to our day’s plans.
Knowledgeable guide. Well organised tour. Best to book your slot online.
Really enjoyed seeing where the politics takes place in Wellington. Clean, smoke free and extremely historical. Publuc Parkings available. Highly recommend.
Lovely spot to take photos of the parliament buildings and surrounding gardens. Free tours through the beehive run every hour. I enjoyed my half an hour tour it's great to see the inside of the beehive as well as it being highly informative.
One of the must see places in Wellington. Took the guided tour and it was absolutely fantastic. Free entry and tour and you can learn a bit about the NZ parliamentary system. Parliament next door is attached to this building and will be part of the guided tour.
Pretty cool and peaceful place if you go in the late afternoon on a Sunday, the building is rather cool.
Poor democracy I have been appointed the treasurer and I have money in all the banks the labour department know about this and nothing has been done this has been going on a whole year I've contacted the ombudsman the serious fraud office I've tried lawyers the court house to file a law suit but nothing has been done I was the one who claimed the three waters which they clearly knew about so it wasn't a mistake i have assets in work and income because my computer has a software which shows me errors in people's webpages and they trying to saying to say what assets all I can say I'd labour needs to be removed from government I am owed billions of dollar in taxes and ird is also committing fraudulent behaviour
Beautiful landmark. Lots of parking available outside on the streets starting from $4 per hour. A tour service of the parliament is also available once you through security and takes approx 60 mins.
