Beach Haven Primary is a multicultural school that encourages and promotes community involvement.
At Beach Haven Primary our focus is on building skills today that will prepare our whole school community for tomorrow. Our culture of thinking provides an environment where children can develop understandings that they can apply in their world at school and beyond, both academically and socially. Understandings within the curriculum will be developed through the inquiry process ensuring children are aware of the criteria necessary for success. Through this, positive values are developed that will enable our children to relate well to others and contribute to their community positively as they move through their lives. Above all, we aim to inspire a love of learning today that our children will take with them into tomorrow.
In our recent ERO review our curriculum was positively summed up as;
"The school’s curriculum reflects the school’s vision and values. It is designed to provide a foundation in literacy and numeracy skills to prepare students for their future. It promotes and encourages positive values that enable students to relate well to others and enjoy learning. The school’s broad holistic curriculum focuses on developing children’s academic, social and emotional capabilities.
Other significant elements of the curriculum include:
- inquiry learning based on students’ real-life experiences
- meaningful learning opportunities in the arts, science and environmental awareness
- learning environments that support and inspire student interests and thinking
- using learning journeys to help students understand more about their learning
- a wide range of co-curricular opportunities that enable students to achieve success.
Teachers are skilful and enthusiastic. Their respectful and caring relationships with students promote student learning and engagement across the school. (ERO 2012)
