A small but very well built airport that serves a lot of tourists traveling up north. The airport building has all modern airport facilities, with ample check in counters for Air New Zealand as well as one for Barrier Air. Plenty of seating area on the ground floor, a first floor runway viewing deck, a fully stocked coffee shop/cafe, rental company counters, and plenty of restrooms. Only smaller planes fly here so you board and disembark through a small rolling staircase, while the bags are loaded on a trolley from the airport and left in the collection area for passengers to collect. The staff at the airport are really nice and helpful people. There is ample signage available for information on services available around the area. There is plenty of parking space available, and the first 30 minutes are free.
Nice little airport with excellent facilities. Parking free for 90 mins. Has a great little kiosk cafe with excellent coffee & hot chocolate, good snack options and limited hot food and chilled sandwiches. Good variety for its size. There is no cover when you walk across tarmac to/from plane. Has 3 car rental desks Avis/Budget, Far North Rentals, Hertz/Thrifty. Lots of Northland tourism brochures.
Small airport, clean toilets. Need to arrive few minutes before boarding. Car rental right in main building.
Susan Air nz receptionist at the reception came across very rude, grumpy and treated us like a complete inconvenience. Sighing in disgust numerous times throughout the interaction all because we wanted her to link a separate flight booking to our international booking to eliminate double handling baggage with our 9 month old baby. Which we had to change from the our original linked domestic flight with our international flight due to compationate reasons.nThis is not the first time we have had poor interactions with Susan either, everytime we have travelled through bay of Islands airport we are met with her disgustingly rude attitude and disrespect.nI do not feel like this holds a good representation to Air nz or Bay of Islands airport and their company core values. I would recommend that Air nz enforce disciplinary action based on the policies that surround the company customer service, values and respect.
I recently visited Kerikeri airport and I is a real gem, with brand-new facilities shining under carefully designed lighting. nThe spacious boarding lounges offer a relaxing ambience, far removed from the hustle and bustle of larger airports. Every corner is adorned with local photos, making the pre-flight wait not only bearable but enjoyable.
