I was pleasantly surprised at how little impact transmission gulley motorway had on this beautiful area. It is still peaceful with good amenities and a variety of walks to suit everybody. The history signs are sadly in need of repair unreadable in parts but the park itself is really lovely.
Lovely place for camping and walks. Has glowworm to find and eels to feed. A working farm and horses. Lastly a swimming hole too.
Love battle hill, great place to visit for safe areas to have open fires, over night camping spots, free roaming kids, creeks to explore and lovely bush walks. Has cell tower nearby if you need to work remotely for those all important 2 hours a day ; Update: Sept 2022 Winter 2022 has seen the access controlled gate commissioned. April - Oct 6am-6pm Nov - March 6am - 8pm
Best place to camp. No wind..nice cute eels to feed. You allowed to make fire..friendly rangers..
We camped here few years back on boxing day.. awesome!! Enjoy going there all the time!! Nice, quiet, peaceful and always meet good people there!! The toilet facilities were always clean. 5stars for me
I visit weekly as I volunteer at an establishment in the park. It's a working farm but within park grounds so we have access to so many different terrains. There are camping grounds basic doc style, streams, a swim hole, lots of native eels that love being fed, hill terrain and forest. There is a pond / swamp area that you can walk through. As well as the farm animals there is great bird life to look out for. There are horse, walking and cycle trails. It is the site of a battle between Maori and British, hence the name Battle Hill.
Best spot to camp out ye..eels to feed..
It's an amazing spot where you will be surrounded by nature, bush trails, a decent stream, some forestry and horse riding. They have 2 bathrooms with running water and 2 porta loos. There's no drinking water or power.
Excellent place to see how rural life works. The working dog demos are great and the kids were fascinated in watching the shearers "give the sheep haircuts" . NOTE: There is marginal cellular reception and forget about Wi-Fi so switch off and enjoy the beauty around you.
love feeding the tuna,,eels and rakiraki ducks and heihei, chickens. with my niece. Battle hill has deep history with the maori and British wars hints the name Battle hill it has camping areas and a urupa or headstones, little cemetery You will only see headstone if you go to camping area on the other side of the awa river once i seen that i stay by feeding the tunaeels and manus birds never to go back to that part bring water if your a Maori Iykyk. nga mihi.
