You’ll have an innings to remember at the Basin Reserve!nnI went in November for the England vs. New Zealand test and loved the relaxed vibe.nnYou can move around the ground easily, and if you want a shady spot, line up 30 minutes before gates open.nnBYO beach chair if you’re sitting on the grass—I got mine from Kmart but check stock online firstnnIt’s easy to get close to the players for autographs or sit near the commentary box if you fancy a chat with the commentators.nnPlenty of food trucks to choose from and decent coffee — they were also handing out headphones so you could stream the radio broadcast live through the live feed radio app so you could follow ball by ball.
Loved the stadium. It was not too big so the view was great. Quite walkable from the city and accessible by bus.
We need a wicket. Best place in New Zealand to watch a match on a good day. Luckily there’s Buger all wind today.nPaying $11 for a can of beer is just an absolute rip off but great to watch New Zealand and England’s best battle it out.
So nice that the grounds were open. There was a practice going on and that was a thrill for this American new to understanding the sport. Wish the bathrooms had been open, though. There is history all around the walking ring on the different buildings that was interesting to read and fun to look at the pictures. One section was even about the US's Harlem Globetrotters! I hadn't thought of them in years! I wish I had been in Wellington when a real match was going on. THAT would have been a sight!
