Story

Welcome to Barluga.

Our venue, at 33 Ardmore Street, is available to hire.
Positioned on the main street of our beautiful town the venue could not be more central and easily accessible.
Quiet and relaxed by day and into the early evening, Barluga quite literally comes alive as the sun sets. Live DJ’s fill the courtyard with music each Friday and Saturday night into the early hours, and the fires illuminate the whole lane.
The scene is set as you enter Post Office Lane, overhead lights twinkle and vines create a romantic outdoor ceiling. We boast two huge outdoor roaring fires, with deep luxurious leather furniture and sturdy wooden tables to ensure comfort for guests of all ages.
The drinks list itself boasts a range of classic and signature cocktails, many containing spirits sourced from right here in the Cardrona Valley.
You’ll notice the wine list has been hand selected from the generous bounty of top quality choices available to us in the Central Otago region, and is influenced heavily by local vineyards.
Let our friendly and knowledgeable staff ensure that you have a relaxed and fun event, our promise to you is that we will handle absolutely everything, to ensure all you need to worry about is having a great time!

Both the food and drinks here are lovely! Been here many times in the past for some drinks and only just tried the food and was certainly not disappointed! Cocktails can definitely be on the slightly pricey side, but definitely worth it as I've never had one I didn't like. Would definitely recommend trying to get seated on the terrace if the weather isn't too bad, it's lovely! Will definitely be returning again :
Wasn't sure on the staff at first as they didn't greet us when we first arrived on the roof terrace, but we soon found them to be friendly and very attentive. The food was excellent although a little bit slow between courses, however that was fine with us as we were there for a leisurely lunch with drinks as well.
Couldn't have asked for better, service was outstanding. Lovely chilled seating on the terrace for food and drinks. Food was beautiful and so were the mango margaritas.
We sat on the terrace for a drink. It took us that long to get served we nearly left but we sat it out because we’d just turned out. We would understand if it was busy but it was not! We ordered a pint of Peroni and a pint of Grolsch they were both absolutely rubbish. We told the waiter who wasn’t interested. Definitely would not return to here in a hurry as there are so many other establishments offering better.
If you're looking for a place to give a go at cocktails or just grab amazing food, this the place to go, great atmosphere especially on the terrace. Just chill out with a nice atmosphere, with friends or family, perfect place to grab food or drinks on any occasion. Bartenders and waiters there are especially lovely and you'll get the amazing treatment with a twist of class and quality. Would definitely recommend for the cocktails and quality food, Sunday roast is to die for. Would say the menu for cocktails and food is wide and there are many options based on your taste. Vegetarian options: Various options on the menu with amazing vegetarian options Kid-friendliness: Welcomes anyone no matter age Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair toilet with entrance, welcomes anyone. Dietary restrictions: It's your food so choose your options and chefs will prepare accordingly.
It is the ideal place to enjoy any type of drink, indoors or outdoors, in Newcastle. It has a pleasant atmosphere, excellent service, and reasonable prices.Service: 5/5
The place was quite busy with the restaurant area already pre-booked but we were seated conveniently nearby. The service was good and the food and drinks were served quite quickly. The only slight problem was that one of the party did not get dessert, as it had been forgotten originally. The staff were very apologetic and offered to get it but the guest decided not to bother. Overall, though, it was an enjoyable experience Parking: This is a city centre venue and pedestrianisation/cycle lanes has reduced vehicular access and available parking in the area near the venue. There is some on street parking, and a multi storey carpark about 7 to 10 minutes walk.
Food was really nice. Beef was cooked to perfection. However, the portion size and amount of veg was abysmal. Don’t go if you’re hungry, or want spend a lot of money on 3 courses.
Had lunch there last Saturday, the food was delicious, the staff were lovely, from the gentleman that greeted us at the door, Abby, Hannah and Rachel who took our orders and served our food, to the gentleman that poured our prosecco, it made a simple lunch seem like a really special occasion! Thank you all. Julie & Stephanie.
Tis the season to be jolly...well apparently not at Barluga. After arriving for a work Christmas event. We were greeted by who I imagine was our event host. Nothing makes your night sparkle with Christmas joy. When you find out the face painter/fantastic artist and lovely human being who was hired to spread joy. Was left outside in the cold on Barluga's lovely balcony. Because Barluga doesn't cater to that type of person or clientele. We were then informed we wouldn't receive any service at the bar downstairs. As our face paint shenanigans might confuse or scare , the other patrons. The staff serving us upstairs were absolute stars. It's a shame your management couldn't shine with them.
