Why have I not been here earlier! The place is awesome, nestled in the Welder and all its greeny goodness, Bar Yoku is a real Japanese treat. We ordered a bunch of really diverse dishes easy to do and they were all fantastic. Everything was well prepared, looked great on the plate and tasted amazing. Service was friendly and attentive, and by the time we left the place was heaving. So best to book ahead me thinks. Thanks Team Bar Yoku, we had a blast!
I love Bar Yoku! The food was delicious, the staff were excellent and the atmosphere was lively. Not the best soft shell crab I've eaten but the sushi taco was unique. Thanks for a wonderful night Bar yoku staff! Definitely coming back again..
Love the vibes here, would be great for pairs of groups. The staff are super friendly and I really liked the sushi tacos though a little pricey for the size. They have them for half price on Saturdays before dinner time if you order a drink. The kushiyaki I found a little bit salty the marinated ones, though I did enjoy the oyster yakitori with the skin and meat alternating.
Very good yakitori, very unique izakaya. taco is huge and tastes great. All the chicken and Wagyu beef are also delicious. Every piece of meat was very tender. The service was also very friendly and prompt. Will definitely bring friends back next time.
Bar Yoku is one of several places that share a central internal courtyard space that is beautifully lit, so it feels like you're outside. We took a table in the courtyard so I can't speak as to the interior of the eatery. The menu had familiar Japanese dishes on it, but also a few things that should have been better explained as we needed to ask Google. My daughter ordered a Sushi Taco, which looked stunning, and she assured me it was crunchy and delicious. I ordered the Raw Wagyu Beef, which was explained to be finely diced, I asked if it was like Tartare, and she confirmed. Which it wasn't. It was small chunks, and although the accompanying flavours were good, I couldn't eat most of the meat. It even made me feel a bit sick. Sinew and chewy-not very enjoyable. The tofu salad - don't waste your money. It was far too cold and lacking in anything apart from cold lettuce. The Salmon Sashimi, like the beef, was cut too thick and sadly wasn't a melt in your mouth experience. Best value for money, but most generic dish was the deep-fried Karaage Chicken pieces. The serving was big, and it was tasty, but not exactly the Japanese finesse I was expecting from the menu.
Amazing food! Taco, scollaps, tail are must try. So glad that there's a Yakitori place in Christchurch. Can tell from the food that the Chef really focuses on details, everything is perfect match.
Amazing food. Some of the skewers are cooked over a barbecue grill so they have an amazing flavour. Everything was perfect. Very expensive though for a lunch. As much as we really enjoyed the food we would have to think twice about eating here at these prices.
Top of the list for Japanese in Christchurch. Wonderful selections a choice of indoor or outdoor in the mall foyer seating. Good service and not too badly priced. Highly recommended for something a little bit different. Check out the menu.
The food and service at Bar Yoku were amazing! We especially loved the yellow fin tuna sushi taco, and the chicken karaage is some of the best I’ve ever had. Will definitely be back!
Lovely ambiance, best experience for 2 ppl is to sit by the yakitori grill as you can watch your food cooking in front of you. Food was delicious and cooked/seasoned well even the broccoli is worth the spend only saw 1 or 2 options for vegans though.
