I'm sitting in front of Balter's comfortable fireplace while I write this. It's easy to drive past Balter if you don't know it's here because it has a narrow frontage. Don't miss it! -- it's huge inside, with a fantastic menu. The proprietors are really friendly, and the food is delicious. I can recommend their Eggs Benedict and their Fried Chicken Burger. The chef has a way of selecting intriguing flavors to accompany the food. Their menu will be expanding into new areas soon. I will definitely be back to try it out. This isn't Fast Food, so make sure you leave yourself time to enjoy the experience. Menu prices are very reasonable, for what you get. Balter is a great reason to visit Carterton.
We had so much fun. The new BBQ menu was amazing - we shared short and pork ribs and they tasted amazing, going really well with the pickles and seasonal veg. My gin cocktail was very tasty. We were able to order off the 'normal' menu for dessert and both got the cheesecake. Very impressive and super tasty without being too sweet. Highly recommended, including as someone who's gluten free. Dietary restrictions: Great range of gluten free options that were generally well labeled.
Stunning food, excellent staff. A real gem amongst the regular restaurants you find in the region. The team at Balter are making food you will not be replicating at home, in a cosy and friendly environment. Make sure you take their recommendations on their signature dishes, flaming cheese does exactly what it says on the tin and the flavours are fantastic. If you have a sweet tooth, this lot will see to it that you will never want to leave. They cater for all food allergies, even whipped up a brand new dessert for me when they found their existing selection wouldn’t suit me. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!
Enjoyed a great Fathers Day breakfast here last weekend. So tasty, fresh & different to other breakfasts in the area. Yummy coffee & friendly service. Stopped in for lunch yesterday and had a tasty bite & beer with great service even with the festival on. Can’t wait to come back for dinner soon.
We were recommended balter bar & kitchen by some locals. The venue was modern and quite spacious. They have a great range of craft beers on tap and the cider was very refreshing. The food was well presented and very generous. However it was felt quite rich and our meal was a bit too spicy to fully enjoy. We’d come back if we were in the area as it may have just been that particular meal selection that didn’t quite hit the mark. The staff were really friendly and helpful.
Service and food were very excellent. I was so surprised when I had my meal in this small town, food was very tasty and professional like if I'm having my meal at a high class restaurant in modern city.
Had dinner Sunday 17-7 22 with family. I had Pork Belly and it was very nice. The wife had Salmon and it was cooked perfect. All meals at our table were lovely including the desserts and we had a great night. Staff very attentive and welcoming. We will be back again as I want to try the Beef Wellington. Well done guys.
Went to Balter Bar an Kitchen tonight for dinner an some drinks, with my eyes set on there new Brisket house menu Started with the beef kebabs an simply thought it couldn't get better but was i so wrong I had the Short Ribs, colesaw an chips for the main an Whoa i was left speechless, the rib fell apart an the pickled vegies were a extremely nice touch They do a amazing cocktail an margarita An the flat white to finish was 10/10 just like the rest of the evening, food an environment Cant recommend Balter Bar an Kitchen, there staff an hospitality enough 10/10
We were looking for a late lunch and were happy the kitchen was open. My wife had the chicken burger and she commented that was the best she had in her life. I had the All Vegetarian and that was outstanding, a selection of vegetables and herbs included potato, tomato, carrot, peas on nice bread and a bed of fantastic aioli. The service was fast and friendly. We highly recommend the Balter.
Very good food, friendly service, but seriously small portioned vegetarian food compared to price and the size of the meat dishes we saw. Was told its about quantity over quality, but unless its nouvelle cuisine at $32 a vegetarian main, you shouldn't leave hungry. Mean portioned in my book, and I've eaten in 25 countries.
