Story

Balance Pilates is a home studio, set up by Bronwyn Skuse in March 2017 - just after her son Oliver started day care.
At Balance Pilates studio Bron offers private reformer classes, prescribed especially for you - so that you can achieve your goals. Whether it be to trim down, tone up, increase strength, train up for the ski season or a sporting event, rehabilitate an injury or just for general well being - your specific programme along with your commitment will help you to achieve these goals.
If you are not naturally motivated and need a friend or partner to drag you along, at Balance Pilates we have two reformers - so sign up for a duo class.

We are perched up on the Port Hills in Cashmere overlooking Christchurch City.

It's hard not to get addicted to Balance Pilates! You're made to feel so welcome by Bron & the instructors right from the start & they make sure, if you have any restrictions, that you are well looked after with alternative moves you can do. I come out of each class with my body feeling so good & I even feel taller! if only! Even though some of the moves can feel like torture at times, it is always in a good way & it gets easier the more you go : I've gone to classes with neck strains & come out with the pain completely gone & my core has definitely strengthened up a lot, eliminating the sciatic pain I was getting, which says a lot about Pilates! At the moment my weekly schedule ties in with Natalie's classes & she is just awesome, a breath of fresh air! I love, love Balance Pilates & highly recommend it to anyone thinking of giving it a go.
Just completed the Balance Pilates 7-week Prenatal course. From the very first introduction session right through to every class I felt supported and cared for. Bronwyn & her team are so welcoming and knowledgeable, nothing you ask goes unanswered. I am looking forward to continuing with pregnancy friendly classes, as well as attending the Postnatal course and beyond. Beautiful space surrounded by beautiful instructors. Also, the 7-week course was an amazing opportunity to connect with many women entering motherhood for the 1st, 2nd 3rd time too. Highly recommend Balance Pilates, I feel blessed to have found them.
I've been very fortunate to have private Pilates sessions with Nat since July 2022. My focus was to strengthen and tone up after a back injury and leading into perimenopause if I'm not already in it!. Nat is fab, we have a laugh but she pushes me every time. Its nice to have found a movement I enjoy and come away with a smile every time. I have also been welcomed warmly by Bron and the team in the odd group class and Bron is always really helpful and encouraging. Now to try and talk my husband in to joining me in 2023.
Just finished the 7-Week Antenatal course. Wow! Signing up was the best decision I could have made. A fun and safe way to keep my body moving during pregnancy. Can’t wait to head back for the Post Natal classes! Thanks to Bronwyn and the team for providing such a great service
I have been going to this wonderful place since August. From the one to one instruction to get started, the foundation, and then open classes, my experience has been truely reforming! Bron, Noelia, or Natalie make you feel welcome and their individual attention is confidence building. My frequently injured body, frustration with sustaining my fitness, and ageing body is loving it. I have lost a bit of weight, feel stronger and more toned, and have my energy levels back. The space and views from the studio window are beautiful. This will be a long term addiction for me. Thanks Balance Pilates team.
If you can afford to, I highly recommend taking the pre-natal course no matter your experience level. It has really helped me physically and the team have equipped me with stretches and exercises to do ongoing. Not to mention it's a beautiful space to treat yourself too weekly with people on the same journey as you. Thanks Bron and Steph!
I highly recommend Balance Pilates! I attended the 7 week prenatal pilates course with Bron and Sarah and they were both so helpful and considerate and made everyone feel comfortable and capable. Invaluable to learn breathing techniques and about your pelvic floor going into something as big as birth! I hope to get to some more classes before giving birth :
I started at Balance Pilates at 19 weeks pregnant, continued until 39 weeks pregnant, and with Brons help started back at 8 weeks post-partum : The postnatal reformer 8 week course was a great way to get back into exercise - and it was great to be able to bring my baby along. It was a very welcoming and supportive course.
I can't recommend Balance Pilates more highly. Bron and her team are amazing teachers - very patient and professional but also incredibly friendly and welcoming. Plus the facilities in Cashmere are a pleasure to be in - such a beautiful spot and building. Pilates has become my me-time - time to focus on my breathing and to recharge and strengthen my body. Since coming to see Bron and her team my posture has definitely improved and I feel a lot stronger in my core. The option of a 6monthly membership works well for me as it allows me to do as many classes as I can without worrying about paying each week or how many classes I have left on my plan - one less thing to have to remember to do!! I'm very grateful for Balance Pilates, Bron and her lovely team.
A most wonderful one on one experience. My session looked very closely at what I required after a long term injury. I walked away with a very strong awareness of where my body is and where it needs to go. Very very beautiful premises. I have made 3 more private session bookings.
