Great space for a family picnic and great time running around the playground for the children. One down side there's nowhere to buy drinks or snacks so you must bring your own. Food trucks are not always there.
Such a lovely place to take your kids for a play or a bike ride. There are gorgeous yes 6 to sit under and read a book or have a picnic. On occasions boat and train rides, and a mini golf to play although I feel it could do with a makeover as it's looking a little worse for wear

Attended a kid's birthday party in the Pavilion. Very good playground for the kids. Huge warning for parents: there is a large, unfenced, water feature/area within the park. It wouldn't take much for a kid or someone else to fall into it.

This place was really good for the kids to spend time..park is clean.
The Grandchildren loved this park so much so we had trouble getting them back into the car. Plenty attractions for the kids to play on and ride with a big open well maintained grounds where you can walk your 4 legged family members.
Beautiful park. An awesome space for communities and family to get together. Carpark space is good and also safe for kids to enjoy. I'm from Auckland and there are some great parks but Avalon Park is pretty good
A great playground, loved by every child I know in Lower Hutt. There's a flying fox, water play, climbing walls, a sandpit and digger, some little roads for kids to bike and scoot on, and about everything else you might want. Oh and if you visit on a weekend or public holiday you can take a ride on a little train or some paddle boats.
