Felt very much like a history text book, propaganda, from my childhood in the UK. Would have much preferred it if there were more emphasis on Mauri and the Pacific Islands. This is their land afterall. Seen enough colonial stuff. I really did think the film was great, showing the reality from various nationalities trying to fit in within the Ashburton community, that was real. The town could start by showing more diversity it their museum.
Great during holidays, they always have an activity for the kids to do

A fair bit of local history, interesting displays. Gallery up stairs. Ample parking on site ans neighbouring roads. Very helpful staff.
Small but very good gallery
Loved it, found the light placements were a bit off, too far behiind us. Need to go back to finish of the museum before going to the art gallery
Purpose built building. The outside is rather plain and doesnt necessarily enthuse you. The inside is fresh and modern. This is a great museum if you want to know the heritage of Ashburton, it was well presented. Themed displays covering the history. What was impressive was the Wall of Photos a mixture of new faces and old faces and the video of the struggles suffered by other cultures in moving to Ashburton. Well done - this provided a lot of insight. I was also impressed by the modern display - celebrating NZ radio - 'Sounds like Us' and in the childrens area - you could actually make your own paper radio and decorate it - everything supplied. What a fantastic idea. There was some interactive parts in the museum. This is a free museum. Donations welcome. Parking available all around the building. The only downside is it is closed on Public Holidays, which is a shame.
Great museum for learning about the history of the local area. Well layed out displays and a play area for the kids. We saw the knitted garden which was very clever.
I visited an art exhibition while in Ashburton with friends. We all enjoyed the works on show.
