This place is an absolute goldmine. Probably the best aviation museum in NZ. I don't know how it has kept such a low profile but I expect that will change. Extraordinarily eclectic array of aircraft. Being able to sit in the Canberra is great. The staff working there were friendly and helpful. The ATR72 sim was unexpected and although it's still a work in progress was very cool and I look forward to seeing the final product. Will definitely be back for a follow up visit. Congratulations to all involved in building this collection and making it available to the public.
Definitely stop in here if you are planning on passing through Ashburton. An incredible collection of planes, aviation and airforce memorabilia. Friendly gents at the counter who love a chat with plane enthusiasts. You can touch the planes, walk through the DC3 and sit in other plane cabins. The old watchtower provides amazing views over the active airfield. It's free entry so make sure to leave a generous donation to help support this awesome museum.
I've wanted to visit this museum for ages and am so glad I did. It's VERY impressive. So many amazing planes, many rare and unexpected, plus heaps of local history. Worth a trip just to visit this museum. 5*!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Great place. Aviation enthusiasts this is a must. Great selection of aircrafts. Very good for a little town. Staff were very friendly and were always there to assist if needed. Normally something I would only do once, but I would go again. Fair admission price.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
A well kept secret! This is a world class aviation museum. The best thing is you get the stories behind the display, the relatable human connection element. The volunteers are knowlegable, welcoming and helpful. Be prepared to spend at least 2 hours here.
Very interesting reading up about the pilots, the planes and there services. The team were welcoming and friendly. A nice worthwhile visit.
A must visit place. Full of history, be able to touch and even walk into some of the planes. Has amazing radio control room which was fun.
What a great place. Excellent to take the kids. As well as heaps to look at, there are a couple of planes they can climb in and play with all the levers, buttons and controls. Free entry for the kids made it even more value for money.
So glad that while I was stopping in ashburton I searched what there was to do in ashburton awesome place never been to a aviation museum where you can go in a plane and touch all the planes really quite unique
This place is better than sliced bread!! A seriously impressive collection of all kinds of aircraft. I went there with a friend who is crazy about aviation and the way his eyes lit up told the whole story. The people there are really really friendly and super nice. Ron was amazing and stayed behind after closing time just so that my mate could look at planes. Randomly stopped on a tour towards the south and did not disappoint. Free entry, we didn't have cash otherwise would have made a donation. Bought something cool though! If you're into flying stuff - this is your stuff.
