We really enjoyed our stay at the Eco Lodge. It is a basic and off-the-grid accomodation as other reviews have noted, but it had what we needed to feel comfortable. The host was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The view out the bedroom and main living room windows is spectacular.
This place was one of the highlights of our time in New Zealand! Helen, the host, is one of the warmest and easiest people to connect with. We loved chatting with her and were in awe of the views from the accomodation. The beds were so comfortable and everything was cozy. Helen opens up her home in the most traditional bed and breakfast sense. We had an outstanding breakfast just what we needed before a big hike and felt so at home. The accomodation is eco in the sense that it's off the grid and has a compost toilet as well as Helen's clear passion for sustainability which is inspiring and refreshing. We would love to stay again. If you're looking for a cozy accomodation with a hospitable and warm host and the best views this is the place!
This is not a lodge. Fantastic views but really off the grid. It is only a bedroom in a 2 bedroom house with all facilities shared. Eco refers to almost no useable power, an unpleasant composting toilet and a woodburning stove which has to be tended throughout the night - no other means of heating.
Closed! We booked it online and arrived at a locked cabin with no one around. Spend well over an hour outside talking to customer service before finally finding alternative accommodation tired and cold with no way to cook our food.
This is a very special place to me and my family,it's a shame that the host doesn't take more responsibility when it comes to her guests and their parking habits.The "free parking" advertised is actually our family's spot and blocks off our driveway, a little more courtesy would go a long way especially when you are making money out of greed and affecting our "peace and tranquility".The connection with nature and birds as advertised by you is greatly diminished by the fact that you have a revolving door of guests every day disturbing the neighbors connection with nature and knocking on our door.Our family has been coming here for 60 odd years and my grandparents built this place with their own hands and in a single week you have ruined it entirely for me and my family .For someone claiming to have such a connection with nature ,you sure seam to be able to commercilise it at others expenses.
